Wingnuts are upset that President Obama shook hands and briefly chatted with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. They are claiming face-to-face talks with a dictator show that Obama is projecting weakness.
Newt Gingrich said Obama "bows to the Saudi King and is friends with Venezuela" and claimed the President showed "shallowness" in talking with Chavez. Gingrich then claimed that U.S. presidents do not "smile and greet" with Russian leaders.
Isn't the lawsuit frivolous? As I read it, the lawsuit is claiming that the issuance of a government report criticizing certain groups violates the plaintiffs' constitutional rights. But the Constitution doesn't provide a constitutional right to have the government not say things that might be considered criticism. Perhaps the plaintiffs want the Constitution to be radically reinterpreted by activist judges to invent some brand-new constitutional rights?

A new study that analyzes data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, FBI, and the Department of Health and Human Services for all 50 states shows that:
For the first time in 25 years, since the inception of the "war on drugs," the number of African Americans incarcerated in state prisons for drug offenses has declined 21.6% - a decline of 31,000 people during the period 1999-2005.
The study…also documents a corresponding rise in the number of whites in state prison for a drug offense, an increase of 42.6%, or more than 21,000 people. The number of Latinos incarcerated for state drug offenses was virtually unchanged.
"No offense to Middle America, but if someone went to Columbia or Wharton, [even if] their company is a fumbling, mismanaged bank, why should they all of a sudden be paid the same as the guy down the block who delivers restaurant supplies for Sysco out of a huge, shiny truck?" e-mails an irate Citigroup executive to a colleague.
Well, sorry Mr. Citiman, simply saying "No offense" does not mean that to anyone with at least the sensibilities of a chimpanzee, you're not as offensive as a turd in a punchbowl any more than being able to go to some fancy assed school on daddy's dime automatically entitles you to live in the lap of luxury while the people who actually have to WORK for a living are going without basics. I have this feeling there's an Antoinette or two amongst your forebears somewhere.
"I'm not giving to charity this year!" one hedge-fund analyst shouts into the phone, when I ask about Obama's planned tax increases. "When people ask me for money, I tell them, 'If you want me to give you money, send a letter to my senator asking for my taxes to be lowered.' I feel so much less generous right now. If I have to adopt twenty poor families, I want a thank-you note and an update on their lives. At least Sally Struthers gives you an update."
