Mubarak to people: "Suck it."

Everyone believed Mubarak was announcing his resignation. He did no such thing. Something awful comes next.

Welcome to Maryland:

Women are reacting with outrage over the comments made by two Frederick County commissioners Tuesday advising Head Start mothers to stay married and not hold jobs outside the home.

Commissioners Kirby Delauter (R) and C. Paul Smith (R) said during a meeting that the best way to help their children succeed in life is to stay married and stay home with their children. Both men touted their wives and the sacrifices they made by not holding jobs outside the home.  [...]

On Tuesday, commissioners voted 4-1 to pull $2.3 million in county funding from the Head Start program as of March 1.

The CPAC conference hotel is infested with bedbugs!

The three-legged stool of conservatism is strong and united at CPAC! Yes, as intelligent and alive as a small piece of furniture. However, the stool may not last long, as the hotel they chose, the Marriott Wardham Park, seems to currently be infested with bedbugs. Yes, we knew that, but are there blood-sucking insects there too? Har har har. "I woke up seeing the bed bugs on the bed, on my shirt and even on the bed that I am not using. Unbelievable!!! The hotel staff wasn't surprised with what happened at all. I will never stay here again," one visitor wrote recently. Hey, don't worry about that. That sounds more like Teabaggers than bedbugs.

I can't see through my tears of laughter right now.

Record cold, snow storms and freezing pretty much everywhere, and this? ...

Obama cuts aid to the poor - President Carebear's proposed 2012 budget will cut several billion dollars from the government's energy assistance fund for poor people. Read the second paragraph to see how the National Journal makes a joke about it! (National Journal)

Meanwhile, who even knew rich people get unemployment benefits?

In the aftermath of yesterday's list of itemized spending cuts, it's worth taking a look at what impact the GOP's new proposal would have on the national debt compared to the tax cut package they supported in December:

GOP Debt Priorities

These numbers are only for FY11, so we're not comparing apples and oranges. As you can see, Republicans have already voted for tax cuts that will add nearly fifteen times more to the national debt as they are proposing to cut on the spending side.

Republicans are also saying they plan to propose another $12 billion in cuts, but they haven't offered any details to back up their claim. On the tax cuts side, about $45 billion of the tax cuts are dedicated to the wealthiest 2% of Americans.

Bottom-line is that no matter how you slice it, no matter what their rhetoric may claim, Republicans are not at all serious about reducing the budget deficit or national debt. They are complete frauds.

If they were serious about fiscal security, they'd recognize that we've got a long-term challenge, not something that can or should be solved in a single budget cycle. And just as importantly, they'd recognize that revenue is every bit as important as spending, and that on the spending side our primary focus should be on reducing the growth in health care costs and reinvesting our bloated military budget on domestic priorities.

Surprised and Stunned, I'm sure

Did you hear that the self-proclaimed self-made man who was the son of a really really wealthy guy spoke before a bunch of conservatives yesterday?

It's true.

Hard to believe.

I bet he then left to speak to a convention of bankers about how awesome it is to blackmail your way into being
bailed out of pending bankruptcy, repeatedly. They learned it all from him.

Only in America.

The neo-Confederates in Mississippi have decided to celebrate the legacy of a Slave Trader, War Criminal, American Traitor and Domestic Terrorist with a special commemorative license plate.

There are vile, violent and evil men populating the history of our Nation, but you have to look long and hard to find folks as immoral, dishonorable and deceitful as Nathan Bedford Forrest. He is a patron saint of white supremacy, racism and treason.

So naturally, he should be celebrated as a wingnutopia role model.

He was an entrepreneur and in the years leading up to the Civil War he made a fortune buying and selling people. He was the co-fonder of the "NegroMart" a wholesale mega store for slaves and when the war started he was filthy rich.

Human Evolution News of the Week. "New fossil evidence seems to confirm that a key ancestor of ours could walk upright consistently - one of the major advances in human evolution. The evidence comes in the form of a 3.2 million-year-old bone that was found at Hadar, Ethiopia. Its shape indicates the diminutive, human-like species Australopithecus afarensis had arches in its feet. Arched feet, the discovery team tells the journal Science, are critical for walking the way modern humans do. "[The bone] gives a glimpse of foot anatomy and function," explained William Kimbel, director of the Institute of Human Origins at Arizona State University, US. "It is the fourth metatarsal bone, which resides on the outside of the middle part of your foot, and which helps support the well-developed arches of the foot that we see in the soles of modern human feet. "The bone that was recovered from the Hadar site has all the hallmarks of the form and function of the modern human foot," he told the BBC."

Terrible: Egyptian Army Supports Mubarak's Decision To Stay

This is not what Democracy looks like!

Hosni Mubarak announced yesterday that he enjoys being a rich dictator and is not interested in resigning so just deal with it, causing widespread grumpiness and serious blue balls throughout Egypt. And today we learn that the Egyptian army supports Mubarak's decision to serve the rest of his term. Weak, weak sauce. Meanwhile, army leaders "continue to call on the pro-democracy movement to stand down," while promising not to "pursue protesters through legal means." (They will pursue/run over protesters with their secret police vans instead.) Is this really the orderly, democratic transition of power that the Egyptian people were promised? [McClatchy]

Donald Rumsfeld sad about torture, opponents of torture

Incorporating Washington Post Book World.

Are you a small business owner looking (now that our economy is in Recovery) to hire an actual destroyer of human beings for your growing Torture of Humans business? In today's competitive atrocity market, run-of-the-mill teenage terrorists with their scrotum-fuses and YouTube videos probably won't get the job done (though they are notoriously cheap workers). You'll likely need a death-monster with exceptional organizational skills, a man who knows desks and flow charts as well as he knows piles of nekkid prisoners. Might your reviewer suggest Donald Rumsfeld, with his résumé/memoir Known and Unknown? He might. READ MORE »
