I keep hearing how well behaved the Tea Partiers were compared to Occupy Wall Street, what with their polite and well mannered rallies and all. They are all over the place, getting face time as the supposedly civilized face of American protest, recalling the glory days of their "peaceful" movement.
Humans are often not nice, and neither side in the political/cultural divide has a monopoly on goodness. But I really don't want to hear any more nonsense about how "decent" the Tea partiers were in contrast to the Occupy Wall Streeters. Many of them behave very badly, very often and they have absolutely no room to be judgmental.

Technically this is just an abortion amendment attached to separate bill which has nothing to do with abortion, but that effectively turns it into an abortion bill in my book.
Anti-choice Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) just filed an anti-choice amendment to a bill related to agriculture, transportation, housing, and other programs. The DeMint amendment could bar discussion of abortion over the Internet and through videoconferencing, even if a woman's health is at risk and if this kind of communication with her doctor is her best option to receive care.
Under this amendment, women would need a separate, segregated Internet just for talking about abortion care with their doctors.
What could possibly be the justification for this? What will this accomplish? I honestly have no idea. From where I'm sitting, it's just a mean-spirited trampling of basic rights.

The National Transitional Council told Reuters that Gadhafi died of wounds suffered in battle; the White House is currently seeking to confirm reports.

Some misguided wingnut (whoops, that's a redunderancy there!) thought that the most critical entertainment items to mail all the way overseas to a bunch of U.S. troops stationed in Bumblefuck, Afghanistan were a couple boxes of crazed loofah-humper Bill O'Reilly's book Pinheads and Patriots, presumably on the assumption that soldiers would enjoy masturbating to O'Reilly's noxious screeds just as much as right-wing idiots. Wrong! Instead, the soldiers did the sensible thing and set them on fire. READ MORE »
