Raw Story: A female Chinese graduate student has been decapitated by a fellow student at Virginia Tech.

It seems there are some right wingers not only talking about a race war, but who actually take concrete steps to foment one:

BROCKTON -- Maria DeSilveira stood on the front porch of a relative's home yesterday clutching a framed photograph of her handsome father as tears rolled down her face.

"My dad didn't deserve this,'' she said of Arlindo DePina Goncalves, 72. "There's too much racism in this world.''

Police said Goncalves was the third and final victim of Keith Luke, a 22-year-old Brockton man who authorities said devised an "evil plan'' fueled by racism to kill as many "nonwhites'' and Jews as he could before taking his own life.

Luke, authorities alleged yesterday, killed Goncalves and a 20-year-old woman, raped and shot the woman's 22-year-old sister, but failed in his plans to attack a Jewish synagogue and end his life.

It's hard not to see the connection between those who post online their fantasies of violence toward Obama, minorities, liberals and Democrats and those who takes such lunatic, evil ravings to heart and act accordingly. I give you one last example, the blogger who calls himself Scipio commenting about this video by Obama supporters:

MySpace Celebrity and Katalyst present The Presidential Pledge

Here's what Scipio (a self described Christian) had to say about the people who appeared in it:

Looking at them, there is not a one into whose guts I would not shove a sword if I could possibly get away with it.

The bloodlust of so many on the right always surprises me. When Bush was President it was directed primarily outward, toward Muslims and Arabs and "illegal immigrants" invading our precious borders. But now that Obama has won, it seems they lust for the blood of their fellow Americans. People such as you and I. It is beyond me what motivates their intense hatred and desire for a bloody retribution against all those who they perceive as wicked merely because we exercised our right of free speech and our right to vote. Fear cannot be the sole cause of their wish to bring about of an American Holocaust in which they would be the God's Holy Avenging Angels of Death. It has to be something more that festers in their hearts and minds. But what that twisted, evil justification may be, I will never understand it.

Just when you thought Stupid had left the building...

The evil of puppy mills

When you see those expensive puppies for sale in a store, think twice about where they came from. Too often, they are churned out of hellholes like this one in Gold Bar, Washington.

Forget the franken veggies ...

The franken fish, cows and pigs just might be on their way to a grocer near you.

Fast-growing salmon. Pork containing heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. These are two examples of products you might see in your local supermarket soon -- animals developed not through conventional breeding but through genetic engineering.

On Jan. 15, the U.S. FDA decided how it will regulate genetically engineered animals, for the first time paving the way for such animals or their products to be sold as food and medicine. The agency has decided to categorize genetically engineered farm animals, also called transgenic animals, as an "animal drug." They will be held to the same requirements already existing for conventionally bred animals treated with hormones or antibiotics. (in the case of transgenic animals, the "drug" is a snippet of dna.) Products derived from them or containing them as an ingredient will not necessarily require labeling. -

Excuse me? Will not "necessarily" require labeling? Hello? They damn well better label the food they mess around with.

I just can't repeat Obama's reply to Republicans enough: "I won."

Of course, the hardly-ever-right wing is all full of the vapors at the idea of the winner being so disrespectful to the losing side.

Gee, that's never happened before,
has it?

The economy is drying up in more ways than one....

The drought is withering California's $36 billion-a-year agriculture industry, the biggest in the U.S. crop losses from the water shortage total $308.7 million as of Dec. 17, the California FDA estimates.

Shawn Coburn, who needs more water for his 1,500 acres of almonds and 300 acres of wine grapes in Firebaugh, 150 miles ssoutheast of San Francisco, is among those who may have to close down if the weather doesn't improve.

"What are we going to do to keep those trees alive?" said Coburn, 40. "I don't know. The drought will put me out of business." -

Dennis Blair, Obama's pick for DNI, is refusing to acknowledge that the drowning torture is torture.

"I'm hesitating to set a standard here which will put in jeopardy some of the dedicated intelligence officers who checked to see that what they were doing was legal and then did what they were told to do," said Dennis C. Blair, nominated for the intelligence post, at his Senate confirmation hearing. He did declare, however, that "there will be no waterboarding on my watch. There will be no torture on my watch."

How can the person with the title of "Director of National Intelligence" not have the intelligence to know that the Nuremberg Defense for war crimes - "just following orders" - was thoroughly rejected? It doesn't matter if some corrupt lawyer said it was legal - waterboarding is self-evidently torture and everyone at the CIA knew or should have known so.

In a statement of solidarity with intelligence officers, Mr. Blair also said he didn't intend to "reopen the cases" of CIA officers who took part in an interrogation program that had been authorized by senior officials.

Pursuant to our treaty obligations under the Convention Against Torture, which was signed by Ronald Reagan, Blair must help the Attorney General prosecute torturers. He cannot refuse to "reopen the cases." If he does, he is complicit in a coverup of war crimes.

Here he is, the guy that doesn't think waterboarding is torture:

If your home-schooled-in-Christ kid needs to do a report on which states would benefit from Dem senators who, tragically, "were unable to complete their terms and were replaced by qualified Republicans by their Republican governors", you might want to avoid that homosexual devil box "Wikipedia", and head straight to Conservapedia:

Here is the actual entry, "Senate Democrats from States with Republican Governors":

George W. Bush is gone from office…but he is not forgotten, at least not by Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Mike Pence (R-IN), and Steve King (R-IA). On Thursday, the three men spent almost 40 minutes delivering their final love letters to Bush. Some highlights:

– FRANKS: "President Bush often had to walk like a knowing lion — like a knowing lion, Mr. Speaker, through the chattering of hyenas. … [I]f those critics do not devour themselves in the meantime, Mr. Speaker, they may face the bared teeth of an enemy that will make us all wish the lion still walked among us."

– PENCE: "I truly believe that this nation owes a debt of gratitude to George W. Bush."

– KING: "I'm here to say thank you to President Bush for the things that he has done when he's had his steady hand on the till of leadership, and especially with our national defense."

At one point, Franks began to tear up when talking about how Bush made the country "brighter" and "more hopeful" for his children. Throughout the 40 minutes, they also compared Bush to Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill. I guess that Pope Benedict (having been a member of the Hitler Youth) never noticed the jews being sent to concentration camps in his small town, because he has reinstated a bishop that denied the holocaust.

And, The Prada-wearers are lecturing Obama about arrogance.

A senior Vatican official on Saturday attacked US President Barack Obama for "arrogance" for overturning a ban on state funding for family-planning groups that carry out or facilitate abortions overseas.

It is "the arrogance of someone who believes they are right, in signing a decree which will open the door to abortion and thus to the destruction of human life," Archbishop Rino Fisichella was quoted as saying by the Corriere della Sera daily....

"What is important is to know how to listen... without locking oneself into ideological visions with the arrogance of a person who, having the power, thinks they can decide on life and death," he added.
"I do not believe that those who voted for him took into consideration ethical themes, which were astutely left aside during the election debate. The majority of the American population does not take the same position as the president and his team," he added.

Being lectured to about ethics by a regime run by a former member of Hitler youth that had no problem embracing George Bush and all of his sins is priceless.

And please don't lecture us about our elections, when your election is based on a smokestack.

Re: stimulus package:

"You know, I'm concerned about the size of the package."...House GOP Leader John Boner (R-Ohio) later said.

Heh. He's been listening to Limpbaugh's 'bend over and grab yer ankles' shit waaaaay too much!

Poor guy: It has come to light that back when Ted Haggard got caught paying the gay massage therapist, there was another guy too that Haggard's church was paying not to tell anyone. But they say it was just money, not hush money.

Boyd said an "overwhelming pool of evidence" pointed to an "inappropriate, consensual sexual relationship" that "went on for a long period of time … it wasn't a one-time act." Boyd said the man was in his early 20s at the time. He said he was certain the man was of legal age when it began.

Could someone please sit this poor man down and explain to him those urges he keeps having to engage in sex with other men are not his soul under attack by Satan, and that he is not besieged by demons, but that he is GAY, it is 2009, and there isn't anything wrong with it? I really feel bad for this guy.

The GOP's latest effort to obstruct the economic stimulus package has collapsed into a big pile of epic fail:

Reports of a recent study by the Congressional Budget Office, showing that the vast majority of the money in the stimulus package won't be spent until after 2010, have Democrats on the defensive and the GOP calling for a pullback in wasteful spending.

Funny thing is, there is no such report.

"We did not issue any report, any analysis or any study," a CBO aide told the Huffington Post.

The GOP's political strategy on the stimulus package has gone from "obstructing at all costs" to "grasping at straws."  At this point, the Democratic leadership needs to realize that the Republicans aren't making a serious effort to fix the economy anymore; they just want Obama and the Democrats to fail and don't care what they have to do to make that happen. It's pathetic.

From the Houston Chronicle:

Iraq is almost entirely dependent on oil money. More than 90 percent of the government's revenues come from oil sales. The government says it earned about $60 billion from oil sales in 2008 but hasn't said publicly how much it expects to take in this year....

The government has already been forced to scale back its 2009 budget twice. The budget now is set for $53.7 billion, down from the original planned $79 billion and from an interim cut to $68.6 billion, according to the Finance Ministry.

The reductions have cut the money earmarked for reconstruction projects from $21 billion in the original budget to $12.54 billion in the latest revision, a member of parliament's budget committee, Alaa Saadoun, told the AP. That figure had not previously been disclosed.

The Iraqi government is running out of money that it can use to pay off local elites to use their influence to encourage less shooting at US forces and Iraqi government units.  The bribe money has been successful in bringing the level of violence down to the levels typically seen in Lebanon during the 80s, but compared to where it was in 2006 and 2007, that is an improvement.  However if the bribes are not paid, the spoils not shared and problems not smoothed over, the incentive for out groups to return to successful system disruption is significant as pipeline sabotage will both decrease the ability of the Maliki government to respond while re-opening massive smuggling opportunities.

Good thing we're sending 20,000 more

US-led coalition forces said Saturday they had killed 15 militants in an operation in eastern Afghanistan, as a NATO soldier and two civilians were killed in separate bomb blasts across the country.

But local legislators put the number of dead at more than 20 and said, "They were all civilians, including two women and two children."

Gazaschoolgirlolivierlabanmatteiafp

A Palestinian schoolgirl inspects her classroom which was burnt during Israel's offensive, at UNRWA's (UN Relief and Works Agency) primary school in Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip on January 24, 2009. Some 200,000 Gaza children returned to school for the first time since Israel's offensive, many having lost family members, their home and their sense of security. The main UNRWA centre and several schools were destroyed by Israeli bombing during the 22-day war.

Now that the offensive is over, it seems to me that its wisdom and morality are even more questionable than before. If Israelis believe that this little girl above will blame Hamas for what was done to her school, or that the unimaginable trauma inflicted on Palestinian civilians will in any way help secure the future of the Jewish state, or that what they have done will end the tunnel smuggling, then their judgment is even more impaired that many of us feared.

Israel admits using white phosphorous in Gaza - but says it was 'not in any illegal manner.' http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article5575070.ece

Lucky for Israel, they're not a signatory to the treaty that created the International Court of Justice in The Hague, so it cannot be tried there.
