Fair warning to the next conservative who makes a comment about "activist liberal judges":

I may be sorely tempted to just simply punch you right in the throat.

This is why).

Bush/Cheney misadministration violated civil liberties

This just in, from Duh! News: The FBI faked terror alerts to obtain thousands of phone records, say they were just following the example of resident Bush. Who also faked alerts, usually around election time.

The FBI fabricated terrorism emergencies to obtain thousands of phone records between 2002 and 2006, it's been revealed. Washington comPost and New York Times journalists were among the targets…

As well as fabricating emergencies, FBI counter-terror investigators obtained phone records by simply leaning on operators, getting approval after the fact with blanket authorisations.
Counter-terror specialists terrorizing citizens and creating "emergencies." But it's Comrade Commisar Hitler Obama who is destroying America.

Let the games begin

Professor Francis A. Boyle of the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, U.S.A. has filed a Complaint with the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Court (I.C.C.) in The Hague against U.S. citizens George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenet, Condoleezza Rice, and Alberto Gonzales (the "Accused") for their criminal policy and practice of "extraordinary rendition" perpetrated upon about 100 human beings.

Mark Perkel:

Different people will see tonights election differently but one thing I think we can all agree on. Ted Kennedy is spinning in his grave. And the voters of Massachusetts just screwed the rest of us out of health care reform. You would think that America has already inflicted enough bad judgment on itself. How many times will it take before the voter realizes the laws of cause and effect?

Obama's success might be best described in terms of what didn't happen rather than what did. Although what Obama accomplished is impressive, what didn't happen is the total collapse of the US economy. America was on track to fail the way the formers Soviet Union failed and the entire world economy was on the verge of collapsing with it. Although the economy is still in serious condition the Apocalypse has been averted for now.

Over the last 8 years Bush and Cheney virtually destroyed this country. No president can undo the damage that the Republicans did in a single year. It will take a long time to recover. We have to stay the course and not go back to the failed policies that created the problems we have today.

(That's what you think, Mark)

It won't stop until someone (besides taxpayers) pays a price

This should surprise no one:

Big banks have already begun poking the holes in Obama's new rules—holes they expect their banks to pass through basically unchanged.

The president promised this morning to work with Congress to ensure that no bank or financial institution that contains a bank will own, invest in or sponsor a hedge fund or a private equity fund, or proprietary trading operations unrelated to serving customers for its own profit.

But sources at three banks tell us that they are already finding ways to own, investment in and sponsor hedge funds and private equity funds. Even prop trading seems safe.

This stuff is not going to stop until Blankfein is in Gitmo and Jamie Dimon is sharing a cell with the unibomber.

"America is a wonderful country. Where else can a Teabagging nude centerfold become a member of 'the world's greatest deliberative body'? Where else can a half-wit beauty queen come within a hair's breadth of being a heartbeat away from the most powerful job on the planet?  Where else can a prostitute transform himself into a journalist and gain access to the White House 196 times in two years? On this day, we really should be celebrating the endless possibilities for self-reinvention that our wonderful country offers. Or we should drink heavily." Link

For centuries, the Archbishops of Tours (Chinon, France) have protected one of the holiest relics of the Church: the charred bones of Joan of Arc. Kept in a bottle and showing signs of the burning, the bones were a prized possession in France where Joan of Arc is the national heroine. New tests, however, reveal that the bottle contains the bones of a cat and an Egyptian. Story here.

Air Scare: Orthodox Jewish Prayer Device Causes Flight Diversion

A flight out of LaGuardia was diverted to Philadelphia this morning after its flight crew became alarmed by an Orthodox Jewish teenager putting on his tefillin, a traditional prayer device involving two black boxes and long leather straps.
Authorities say, Chautauqua Airlines flight 3079 from LaGuardia to Louisville was diverted to Philadelphia after a 17-year-old male strapped on a "tefillin," also known as a phylactery, used in the Jewish religion for prayer purposes. Philadelphia police say a flight attendant had never seen tefillin before, which has two small black boxes with black straps attached to them. The attendant became alarmed and reported it. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says they were notified of a "disruptive passenger" on the plane and as a result was diverted to Philly. The Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia Police Department and federal authorities immediately went into Emergency Response mode and the plane that departed LaGuardia at 7:25 a.m. landed in Philadelphia at 8:50 a.m.

The boy and his sister were interviewed by Homeland Security as were the other passengers. Security officials described the boy as "completely cooperative."

There is your opening, Mr. President

Right here:

A prominent Republican senator said Thursday that President Obama is seeking to spark "class warfare" with increasingly populist rhetoric and a series of regulatory measures aimed at Wall Street.

"I think they think if they can create enough animosity toward Wall Street and corporate America, they get into this traditional sort of Democrat rhetoric and tap into the populist anger out there," Sen. John Thune, South Dakota Republican, told The Daily Caller. "For Democrats to be successful they've got to create a sense of class warfare and an us versus them mindset."

They are so eager to defend Wall Street they are doing it pre-emptively. Unemployment is at 10%. People are angry. People are pissed about the bonuses and the bailout.

Even Bob Shrum could figure this out.

And, as a side note, this merely confirms what we already know- whenever the Republicans accuse someone of something, they are already doing it. Class warfare? Has he watched the GOP the last twenty years?

Again. Over and over and over and over again, the same old refrain from President Marshmallow:
"With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics," said President Obama in a statement. "It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans... That's why I am instructing my Administration to get to work immediately with Congress on this issue. We are going to talk with bipartisan Congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision."

Yeah. That'll work. The Supreme Court just handed government over to the highest bidder, and you think REPUBLICANS are going to work with you to develop "a forceful response to this decision"? Republicans have historically been the primary beneficiaries of truckloads of corporate cash, with Democrats settling for the scraps. That idiot Boehner could barely contain his glee yesterday at the decision. And you think that the very same Republicans who think you're a Marxist Maoist Fascist Kenyan Islamic Terrorist are going to sit down with you and derail this gravy train?

Jesus H. Christ.

And in a related story, here's what some of those 'primary beneficiaries of corporate cash' have to say about the ruling:

Here's what a few Republicans have to say about yesterday's ruling in favor of corporations by the SCOTUS:

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX): "It is about a nonprofit group's ability to speak about the public issue. I can't think of a more fundamental First Amendment issue. … [The ruling could] open up resources that have not previously been available [for Republicans]." [NYT]

Rep. Steve King (R-IA): "The Constitution protects the rights of citizens and employers to express their viewpoints on political issues. Today's Supreme Court decision affirms the Bill of Rights and is a victory for liberty and free speech." [Statement]

Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN): "If the freedom of speech means anything, it means protecting the right of private citizens to voice opposition or support for their elected representatives. The fact that the Court overturned a 20-year precedent speaks volumes about the importance of this issue." [Statement]

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY): The court took a step toward "restoring the First Amendment rights [of corporations and unions]. … By previously denying this right, the government was picking winners and losers." [AP]

RNC Chairman Michael Steele: "Today's decision by the Supreme Court in Citizens United v. FEC, serves as an affirmation of the constitutional rights provided to Americans under the first amendment. Free speech strengthens our democracy." [Statement]

Senate Candidate Marco Rubio: "Today's SCOTUS decision on McCain-Feingold is a victory for free speech." [Statement]

Ironic questions posed unironically!

Let's Just Say It's A Good Thing Scott Brown Is So Constantly Handsome And Naked

Scott Brown has no idea what he is doing. None. The problem is this: He did not anticipate being a US Senator! Here is his actual answer to the question of whether Obama's administration has communication issues: "No, listen, when I spoke to the president, we had a lot of laughs, and I told him he has to keep his sense of humor. Even in my acceptance speech, I joked around because, you know, I'm a regular guy. I have a sense of humor. That's one of the things that insulates me from a lot of the negativity." Talking! It is Scott Brown's Chappaquiddick.

Here's more of this same response:

So, you know, I agree with him on a few things. I think he's done a great job with North Korea and Iran and the war in Afghanistan. I thought he's done a very nice job. The simple fact that he had the guts to step back, analyze the situation and then make a determination that we need to finish the job and provide the tools and resources for our soldiers to do just that, that was great. So, you know, the health care bill, which you're probably thinking about, for Massachusetts, it was not good. To think of paying higher taxes and have a half trillion in cuts and basically desensitizing places like Nebraska, when we already have 98 percent of our people insured, we have a very good plan, it didn't make sense.

Eh. Should have just ended it after the bit about the having a sense of humor.

Bipartisanship

This is why we can't have nice things, people…

"Republicans refuse to join bipartisan budget deficit panel, on the grounds that fixing the problem would make the Democrats look good"
-- from Fark.com. Actual story here, via No-Shit Daily.
Top Republicans on Wednesday were hostile toward President Obama's plan to create a bipartisan commission on cutting projected deficits, raising doubts about the prospects of a main piece of his budget strategy.
Yes, even though "out-of-control spending is scaring the hell out of the American people," repuglican rep John Boehner will not lift a finger to help. The Party of No, ladies and gentleman. The Party of No who keeps weeping that they're not being included.

Oh, see also "House minority leader warns his party against working with Democrats" at
Politicon, from earlier today. House minority leader warns his party against working with Democrats. Yeah, we're looking at YOU, Massholes, and all you miserable little pantywaists in the media whining how the Prez is shutting out rethugs. F**k you.
