A tea story: This is the Tea Party in a nutshell: a movement of angry reactionaries marked by zealous intolerance of anyone who doesn't fit their demographic profile of a real American, combined with a sociopathic desire to enforce the proper punishment on anyone who doesn't live up to their old-time Judeo-Christian values of crime and punishment.

"To my Alabama way of thinking, winning the Nobel Prize in Economics is just one more reason Peter Diamond isn't qualified to be on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System."

She did what she had to do. "In a record-breaking journey, a female humpback whale has travelled across a quarter of the globe, a distance of at least 10,000km. The event, reported in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters, is the longest documented movement by a mammal. Its voyage was also twice the distance that the whales typically migrate each season to new breeding grounds. Scientists say the extreme behaviour shows how "flexible" these animals are. The female whale was spotted and photographed twice - once at its regular breeding ground in Brazil, then later off the coast of Madagascar. The shortest distance between these two locations is 9,800km."

In a case highly similar to that of Atlanta's "Bishop" Eddie Long, a pastor in Las Vegas has been arrested and charged with 11 felony counts of molesting teenage boys. According to police, Pastor Billy Eskstine McCurdy used biblical verses to coerce the boys into sex.

North Las Vegas police arrested Billy Eckstine McCurdy, 57, following an eight-month investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted teen boys at his home. McCurdy is the pastor at Revival Temple Church of God in Christ at the intersection of Tonopah and Vegas drives. At the church Friday night, men in all black suits said no church officials were prepared to comment on the arrest. The new charges involve two teen boys who said McCurdy forced them into sexual relationships with him. They told police he used his position in the church and Bible scriptures to force them into sex acts, authorities said. Both boys testified at a grand jury, which indicted McCurdy Thursday on six counts of sexual assault and five counts of open or gross lewdness. He was being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

Police expect other victims to come forward. Five years ago a similar charge was brought against McCurdy, but the case was dropped because prosecutors felt they could not prove their case. Back then McCurdy's parishioners rallied behind him. The historically black (and virulently anti-gay) Church of God in Christ (COGIC) has long been accused of covering up sexual misconduct by its pastors.

Does Bristol Palin not realize that her child is going to grow up in a world where her antics will live forever via YouTube? Or does she just not care? "Famous for getting knocked up, then denouncing copulation, Bristol Palin is determined to keep her sex life in the public eye. On Dancing with the Stars last night, she ripped a man's shirt off and humped him in slow motion....That closing image of the Palin clan smiling and clapping afterwards is priceless." <(Gawker has video at the link, but it is not for the feint of heart.)

Raped in the USA

Ken Buck to defend himself this week for not prosecuting rape

This is where you hang out when you want to forget the stresses of not prosecuting rapes.

It's generally not a good thing for a candidate's election chances to be accused of raping someone. But is a good thing for a candidate to be accused of not prosecuting some rape cases that maybe should have been? We shall see! That's what is happening to Colorado GOP Senate nominee and Birther-hater Ken Buck this week, as part of "three-part series" by the Colorado Independent, an Internet World Wide Web site. First up is a lady who says she was raped but was told by the boy-ranching prosecutor Buck there was not enough evidence this was actual "rape rape" to get a jury to convict. Except lots of lawyer people told this woman her case actually probably would have been successful. READ MORE »

Another Canadian/American health care myth destroyed

The next time some uninformed moron tells you that the U.S. health care system is so great and perfect that Canadians flock south in droves for American style health care, feel free to shove this chart in their face..

See that sliver of red in the chart?  Well that's how many Canadians opt for American health care in place of their own government-run Medicare program where EVERY SINGLE Canadian and landed immigrant is entitled to full world-class health care without ever having to open up their wallets or get permission from an insurance provider.  Not only is Canada's single-payer system universal but it provides health care at a lower expenditure than the U.S. system ($3400/per-capita versus $6400 respectively).

Canadians running south seeking medical treatment?  Not happening and another myth destroyed.

Obama will appeal DOMA, i.e, he will defend anti-gay law he claimed was 'abhorrent' - but that was during the campaign when he supported the public option, opposed offshore drilling ....

Brilliant way to motivate the base, only three weeks before a crucial election.

But it's okay ...
...

So, let's be clear about this: Bashing Obama for knowing Illinois politicians or where he went to Church in Chicago or where he was born or being a community organizer, that's OK.

Asking Joe Miller why he is against government handouts when he colluded with is wife so she could file for unemployment assistance or why he takes the state's oil money (him, wife, 8 kids, means they collect $12,810) or why he has six figures of credit card debt or why he availed himself of government-backed student loans, that's not OK.

...
"Step on it, dear!  We don't want to miss Joe
Miller's Libertarian rant about the welfare
state and fiscal responsibility."

Sharron Angle and Sharia: Oops

Hahahaha, nothing gets past Sharron Angle, she has a mind like a bear trap. Literally.

Remember last week when Sharron Angle, the Teabagger from Nevada and religious whackjob said that two cities in the country already operated under Sharia Law? Me neither!

We're talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe isn't a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it," Angle said according to audio of the rally obtained by the Washington post. "My thoughts are these. First of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas, are on American soil, and under Constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don't know how that happened in the United States.

Anyway, some noob at CNN decided to investigate the claim that Dearborn, Michigan and Frankford, Texas are under Sharia law, the sacred law of Islam. Guess what they found?

Frankford Texas doesn't exist, and the Mayor of Dearborn is pissed off.

Everyone surprised by this, stand on your head. Are you sitting down? If this works, everyone against stem cell research need not apply:

First patient treated with human embryonic stem cells "Doctors have injected millions of human embryonic stem cells into a patient partially paralyzed by a spinal cord injury, marking the beginning of the first carefully designed attempt to test the promising but controversial therapy, officials announced Monday. ... The patient was treated Friday at the Shepherd Center, a 132-bed hospital in Atlanta that specializes in spinal cord and brain injuries, according to announcement by the hospital and Geron Corp. of Menlo Park, Calif., which is sponsoring the research. ... The hospital is one of seven sites participating in the study, which is primarily aimed at testing whether the therapy is safe. Doctors will also conduct tests to see whether the treatment restores sensation or enables the patient to regain movement. No additional information about the first patient was released."

Obama team bored of nation's problems, still loves the Blackberry

'Hey how's your Fantasy Football doing, Axelrod?'

Look at all the president's men having so much fun on their Fantasy Lacrosse League while poor people talk about their troubles, with Obama!

The official White House Flickr caption for this Pete Souza picture goes like this: "President Barack Obama answers questions about the economy from local families as, from left, Senior Advisor David Axelrod, Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton, Director of Speechwriting Jon Favreau, and Trip Director Marvin Nicholson wait in a hallway of the Southhampton Recreation Association in Richmond, Va."

We guess it's too much to ask that they might look up from their fucking Blackberry emails for long enough to at least pretend to pay attention to the "local families," when the White House photographer is snapping pictures right in front of them. [White House Flickr]
