"I have the ability from my couch, wherever I happen to be, I can turn on very light in the place, on all five houses. I can turn on the air conditioner and I can regulate the air conditioner. So I lit my place up like a Christmas tree last night.
"At 8:30 on Saturday night, I'm going to do the same thing. I mean, I might even put a Christmas tree up! I might even put Christmas lights on the outside lights, on the outside landscaping. I mean, I'm going to go just the opposite way, because I, El Rushbo — as you know — resist the tug of popular sentiment."
Did I mention he's an asshole?

Dayana does Guantanamo
Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza, visited Gitmo last week and here's what she reported:
We arrived in Gitmo on Friday and stared going around the town, everybody knew Crystle and I were coming so the first thing we did was attend a big lunch and then we visited one of the bars they have in the base. We talked about Gitmo and what is was like living there. The next days we had a wonderful time, this truly was a memorable trip! We hung out with the guys from the East Coast and they showed us the boat inside and out, how they work and what they do, we took a ride around the land and it was a loooot of fun!
We also met the Military dogs, and they did a very nice demonstration of their skills. All the guys from the Army were amazing with us.
We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting.

I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful.

If there's one thing the Obama's know how to do, it's walk the walk. In a move that bucks past presidential tradition, the Obamas have chosen to decorate the White House using their own hard-earned money (according to New York Magazine, the couple reported $4.2 million in household income on 2007 tax returns) and the talents of Hollywood decorator Michael S. Smith.
Incoming presidents are allotted $100,000 to re-decorate the White House residence and the Oval Office - a sizeable amount of taxpayer cash, particularly in this economy -- as well as access to the White House Historical Association, "a privately funded foundation that paid for a $74,000 set of china shortly before Laura Bush left town." But, according to Camille Johnson, director of communications for the First Lady, this First Couple will wisely "not [be] using public funds or accepting donations of goods for redecorating their private quarters."

"It's Time to Say NO to Biased Media and Say YES to Fair Play and Free Speech."
Because listening to Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Karl Rove, Mike Huckabee, et al, 24/7 is just not enough...
Faux News is launching a new opinion site, which will attempt to emulate the social aspects of Facebook - as well as MySpace, which, like Fox, is owned by Rupert Murdoch (and is rapidly losing its popularity) - by encouraging readers to post comments and argue with one another. And the hook will be columns, blogs and videos from the likes of Bill O'Reilly, Greta Van Susteren and Hannity, which will likely draw their strongest followers.

I think if we're going to keep handing money out to the bankers and automakers, we need to cut back on this crap:
We give foreign aid to 150 countries, and the total does not include funding the two wars we're in. Here are the top 16 recipients in 2005:
1. Israel 2.58 Billion
2. Egypt 1.84 Billion
3. Afganistan 0.98 Billion
4. Pakistan 0.70 Billion
5. Colombia 0.57 Billion
6. Sudan 0.50 Billion
7. Jordan 0.48 Billion
8. Uganda 0.25 Billion
9. Kenya 0.24 Billion
10. Ethiopia 0.19 Billion
11. South Africa 0.19 Billion
12. Peru 0.19 Billion
13. Indonesia 0.18 Billion
14. Bolivia 0.18 Billion
15. Nigeria 0.18 Billion
16. Zambia 0.18 Billion

From CNN.com
"America's $84.8 billion in aid to Israel from fiscal years 1949 through 1998, and the interest the U.S. paid to borrow this money, has cost U.S. taxpayers $134.8 billion, not adjusted for inflation.
Or, put another way, the nearly $14,630 every one of 5.8 million Israelis received from the U.S. government by Oct. 31, 1997 has cost American taxpayers $23,240 per Israeli.
Good thing for the defense contractors that virtually all of this money we give to Israel goes towards buying weapons (up to 75% made in the U.S.). Beginning in 2009, the U.S. plans to give $30 billion over 10 years.

"Can't we get a guy who can put two thoughts together?" that's Rush, complaining about Obama's brain not working.
Really, Rush?
After eight years of "Put food on your family," you're fed up with Obama?
After eight years of "So GYNs can practice their love on their patients," you're fed up with Obama?
After eight years of "Is our children learning?" you're fed up with Obama?
After eight years of "My Pet Goat" and "Won't get fooled again," you're fed up with Obama?
After eight years of "The levees will hold" and "The economy is sound," you're fed up with Obama?
After eight years of "Threats turning into mushroom clouds," you're fed up with Obama?
Really, Rush?
Gosh, it's almost like facts mean nothing to you.

The latest little wrinkle in the Greed Is Good Sweepstakes: remember all those banks who refused to allow homeowners in default to restructure their mortgages, mortgages often made fraudulent by greedy lenders? Like, um, banks? Remember how they wailed and whined and gnashed their teeth about how the debtors might get away with not having to pay, oh, say, as much as 5 or 6% of the full value of the (usurious) interest payments? And maybe even (dawg forbid!) 10% of the bloated price? Remember how they pounded the table and demanded every last penny they were owed had to be paid in order to protect the (cue the choir) sanctity of contracts?
Here's what's actually hapening: they're walking away from the foreclosed properties because they're worth less than the value of the mortgage they foreclosed, and they're telling the previous owners they screwed over that they're responsible for them again. http://casadelogo.typepad.com/factesque/2009/03/pigs-in-space-6-whatever-bankers-want-homeowners-get-fucked.html#more

Kissing the Sacred Purple
His Eminence,Daniel Cardinal DiNardo
Archbishop of Galveston-Houston
Most Revererend Eminence,
Thank you for denouncing the University of Notre Dame for inviting Obama to speak at their commencement ceremonies in May. Hopefully, the University will rescind the invitation and invite someone more in keeping with the current Pope's values - perhaps someone like John Yoo, or better yet, Dick Cheney.
Unfortunately, I doubt such a rescission will occur - Obama is the President of the United States, after all. You should be prepared for that. You need to create a competing event to distract attention away from Obama's heretical commencement speech.
I'm thinking you should produce one of those old-style variety shows to premier on Cinemax at the same time as the commencement. Yes, I know what you're thinking, "Why would anyone want to watch a Catholic variety show and why would Cinemax want to air it?" Well, the answer is in my proposed title for the show "Kissing the Sacred Purple."
That's right. It's the same phrase one is supposed to use as a closing for letters written to cardinals, but, I think it can have another meaning, one that will please viewers and Cinemax as much as it's pleased the priesthood and the Pope over the years.
Think about it. It could begin with America's newest Catholic superstar, Newt Gingrich, sharing that wonderful story about how a friend kissed his sacred purple in the front seat of a car while his children scurried past.
Next up, you could feature a musical number by The Altar Boyz, and maybe get Bill O'Reilly to do a juggling act featuring falafels, loofahs, and his ReamMaster 5000.
Of course you'd want to end it with something big--something you could use to tease the public for weeks before the event--and what would be better than a video of Monsignor Georg Gänswein fluffing the papal mitre.
I'd be glad to try to put it together for you, but I'd need at least three million dollars to begin.
Kissing the Sacred Purple,
Gen. JC Christian, patriot

Why does IBM hate America?
As IBM was firing thousands of American workers last week, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published Big Blue's application to copyright a computerized system that calculates how to offshore jobs while maximizing government tax breaks.
In their application to patent a "method and system for strategic global resource sourcing," five Hudson Valley IBMers describe how it weighs such plans as "50 percent of resources in China by 2010," against such factors as labor costs, infrastructure and the "minimum head count to qualify for incentives." - timesheraldrecord

The Perfect Storm
Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation...the unsung casino gambling highroller with Americans future at stake...is heading for financial drowning in red thanks to new "gambling"...I mean "investment" strategies.
Just months before the start of last year's stock market collapse, the federal agency that insures the retirement funds of 44 million Americans departed from its conservative investment strategy and decided to put much of its $64 billion insurance fund into stocks.
The agency refused to say how much of the new investment strategy has been implemented or how the fund has fared during the downturn. The agency would only say that its fund was down 6.5 percent - and all of its stock-related investments were down 23 percent - as of last Sept. 30, the end of its fiscal year. But that was before most of the recent stock market decline and just before the investment switch was scheduled to begin in earnest.
The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation may be little-known to most Americans, but it serves as a lifeline for the 1.3 million people who receive retirement checks from it, and the 44 million others whose plans are backed by the agency. http://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1&ui=1

In case you were wondering, the Israeli Military finished its investigation of itself and finds no misconduct in the Gaza War!
The Israeli military's top lawyer on Monday closed an investigation into alleged misconduct during the recent three-week war in Gaza, concluding that charges made by graduates of a military preparation school were "based on hearsay" and had been "purposely exaggerated."

A new and potentially worrisome fight for power and control has broken out in Baghdad as the United States prepares to pull combat troops out of Iraq next year.
The struggle, which played out in fierce weekend clashes, pits two vital American allies against each other. On Sunday, Iraqi soldiers backed by U.S. combat helicopters and American troops swept into a central Baghdad neighborhood, arresting U.S.-backed Sunni fighters in an effort to clamp down on a two-day uprising that challenged the Iraqi government's authority and its efforts to pacify the capital.
But the fallout from the operation is already rippling far beyond the city's boundaries. Both the Iraqi security forces and the Sunni fighters, known as the Awakening, are cornerstones in the American strategy to bring stability. The Awakening, in particular, is widely viewed as a key reason violence has dramatically dropped across Iraq.
So the very people we rented some temporary loyalty from with cash, guns and ammo are the same people that L. Paul Bremmer foolishly made into insurgents when he disbanded Saddam's army. Today's Awakening members are yesteryear's highly trained soldiers.
When the Iraqi army was disbanded and these guys were out of work before, they turned their guns on their sectarian rivals and the United States military. Now, all this time later, they have not only a lot more experience under their belts, they have a lot of American weapons hanging off them, too.
This has the potential to get out of control, really fast, and in a big, big way.

Welcome to Vietnam, Mr. President: http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/032809a.html
And speaking of Afghanistan, the opium trade has prospered, cronyism is rampant, women's rights are disappearing and those who support them are going to prison. And now, Karzai has signed legislation that legalizes rape: The Independent.
I'm sure glad we're sending more troops and will continue to spend American money and blood to support this country.

Lest you feel too bad for GM's Rick Wagoner losing his job, he's heading into the sunset with a $20M retirement package.
Tighty righties have their panties in a knot over the firing of Wagoner, because the job of a rich white man is more important to them than the jobs of the tens of thousands of working people that Wagoner's mismanagement has eliminated. But then, the Republicans are is the party of rich white men, and every single policy is intended to benefit rich white men at the expense of, well, the rest of us. So now they huddle together and whine in defense of yet another rich white man while saying not a yelp about the millions of Americans who've been thrown out of jobs over the past year by the Bush Depression. How suprising. ### Gun nuts can stop whining and planning a revolution: the assault rifle and ammunition ban - Isn't going to happen.
