Not that anyone is paying attention, but 4,260 soldiers have been killed in Iraq and 671 in Afghanistan.

Homophobe

Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank called Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia a "homophobe" in a recent interview with the gay news Web site 365gay.com. The Democratic lawmaker, who is gay, was discussing gay marriage and his expectation that the high court would some day be called upon to decide whether the Constitution allows the federal government to deny recognition to same-sex marriages.

The media's erasure of the Bush administration and its policies in their coverage of the economy has been so pervasive that they have given round-the-clock attention to the AIG bonus scandal for days on end with virtually no mention of the fact that it was the Bush administration that last fall approved billions of dollars in aid to AIG without requiring the company to nullify its bonus contracts.

This is treasonable, is it not?

Via Townhall comes this risible wad of rubbish breathless and urgent call to action, titled in all-caps (of course) thus:

MILLIONAIRE PATRIOT WANTS YOU ARMED AND TRAINED.

Here's the main body of the e-mail, emphasis mine and inciting links removed (should you be so inclined, you can access the original Townhall link to this offer here):

Dear Reader,

The next four years may prove to be a turning point for all freedom loving Americans.

With the new administration holding party majorities in the House and Senate, we are facing the worst political environment for the passage of unchecked gun control legislation and further erosion of our constitutional right to bear arms than we have previously seen in our lifetimes.

As the nation creeps from recession to depression, the potential for civil unrest in every major city grows more likely. There has never been a more crucial time in our nation's history to make sure you are armed and trained for the protection of yourself and your family.

One man in our country knows this better than most, and I'm proud to tell you, he is doing something about it.

His name is Dr. Ignatius Piazza.

He is the Founder and Director of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute and is known by his hundreds of thousands of students as 'The Millionaire Patriot' because he has literally given away millions of dollars in free and discounted training to law abiding citizens to assist them is securing what he refers to as "The Comfort of Skill at Arms."

Dr. Piazza, the Millionaire Patriot, wants YOU armed and trained and he is putting his money where his mouth is.

He is providing you with the opportunity to attend five days of world class training at his Front Sight Firearms Training Institute with everything you need to secure permits to carry a concealed handgun in over 30 states—all for pennies-on-the-dollar!

Plus, if you act quickly before all the guns he set aside are gone, he will give you, free of charge, a Springfield Armory XD Pistol in your choice of 9mm, .40SW, or .45ACP!

That's right. This is legitimate. Thousands of people have already taken advantage of it AND YOU SHOULD TOO!

I can personally vouch for Dr. Piazza and his Front Sight Firearms Training Institute.

I believe now more than ever before that EVERY American should be armed and trained to the highest levels possible—levels that exceed law enforcement and military standards. Take advantage of the Millionaire Patriot's offer. Get armed and trained to prepare for what may be coming in the next four years!

NOW is the time to get armed and trained. Don't wait until it is too late.

Click for more details about the Millionaire Patriot's amazing offer.

Sincerely,

Joseph Farah
Editor and Chief Executive Officer

P.S., You have never seen me make such a personal endorsement, so take heed to the fact that I am telling you to take advantage of Dr. Piazza's offer to get five days of world class training at Front Sight, concealed weapon permits good in 30 states, and a FREE Springfield Armory XD Pistol.

Two British High Court judges have released a very disturbing decision that finds that ormer detainee Binyam Mohamed was offered his freedom by the United States in exchange for his promise not to reveal his own torture at Guantanamo Bay. Equally disturbing is the statement from the English government that it cannot release proof of the torture because of objections from the United States government. If the Obama Administration is continuing this position, it is not only blocking prosecution of war crimes but the release of evidence of such war crimes to other nations. Jonathan Turley discussed this on this segment of Rachel Maddow's show.

Mohamed is an Ethiopian who moved to Britain as a teenager and was arrested in Pakistan in 2002. He claims he was tortured Pakistan and in Morocco. He was then transferred to the United States, which also tortured him.

All charges against him were dropped last year. He refused our Faustian bargain.

Lord Justice John Thomas and Mr. Justice David Lloyd Jones said that there was evidence to show Mohamed was tortured, but that the documents could not be made public because of the objections by the United States. Presumably, if the Obama Administration lifted such objections publicly, the British government would not have a basis to withhold the material.

No Falafels For Lunch

Ellen Augello
It Happened To Alexa Foundation

Dear
Mrs. Augello,

It was a bold move to ask Bill O'Reilly to host your fundraising luncheon. Most rape victim support organizations would shy away from inviting someone who
blames victims for their fashion choices. But the Alexa Foundation is different. You're all about breaking paradigms, and I salute you for that.

But now, the news that he sent a camera crew to
stalk a woman - trailing her for hours before finally confronting her while she was on vacation miles from home - is likely to turn your O'Reilly appearance into a full-fledged PR crisis.

You're in a tough spot now. You can't really cancel it. He doesn't take "no"for an answer - that's especially true if it's a
woman saying it. But you can't really go through with the luncheon either. Imagine the black eye you'd receive if the event were picketed by rape survivors.

I have a solution to your dilemma. Ask O'Reilly to do a fund raiser that can't be picketed. I'm thinking along the lines of one of those auctions where celebrities donate a few hours of their time to have dinner with the highest bidder. But instead of dinner, have O'Reilly re-enact one of his famous calls to Andrea Makris. What woman wouldn't want O'Reilly to attempt to seduce her over the phone while he's
pleasuring himself with a ReamMaster 5000? For men, there's the lure of O'Reilly's description of his showering techniques  - who could resist that. The bidding can all be done on-line.

And you could still hold the fund raising luncheon. Just replace O'Reilly with a speaker who is more positively identified with women's issues. I bet Joey Buttafuco is available.

I hope I've been helpful. Please let me know if I can provide more assistance.

Heterosexually yours in a chaste, biblical, and no-spin zone kind of way,

Gen. JC Christian, patriot

The Afghan government gave the West another example how it is struggling to defeat the Taliban by joining it. The government has arrested the manager of a popular Afghan television network for refusing to censor images of women dancing in short skirts and plunging necklines. Fahim Khodamani of Emrose TV was arrested on the crime of broadcasting un-Islamic images.

The government says that the Taliban uses such images to rally supporters. Yet, that is saying that the best way to protect rights is to suppress them so that their exercise cannot be used by the opposition. If the Afghan government wants to win this war, it has to do so in the preservation of free speech and free press rights. The arrest seems responsive to a call from Afghanistan's top Muslim clerics for a crackdown on the "airing prohibited and hypocritical anti-Islam programs and immoral scenes and movies."

As the government slides further into the medieval traditions of Taliban-like Islam, many in this country will begin to question why American men and women are dying or risking their lives in that country. American women are serving in a country where women and girls are increasingly viewed as chattel and subject to tremendous abuse. If the country is going to strip rights from women, reporters, and dissidents, it may become increasing difficult to justify our tremendous loss of lives and treasure.

The Texas Board of Education is led by Don McLeroy, a creationist dentist and plagiarist who believes that the earth is only 6000 years old.

The man who wants to dictate what all of the children in one of the largest educational systems in the country should learn about science believes his pathetic and patently false superstition supersedes the evidence and the informed evaluation of virtually all the scientists in the world.

But wait! The unbelievable insanity is not yet complete! The Texas school board is debating and will vote on a revised curriculum this week, a curriculum in which the uninformed, uneducated doubts of this arrogantly ignorant man will be enshrined in the lesson plans of every child in Texas. And the board is about evenly split! This would be funny if it weren't so terrifying.

A recent study of capital cases in Texas shows that nine death row inmates lost their appeals due to the failure of counsel to file by the court deadline. Johnny Ray Johnson was put to death after his lawyers missed a filing deadline by one day. He is one of six such inmates put to death after missed deadlines. Story here.

barack obama

###

The Obama Admin last week incurred the wrath of the Family Research Council, and its fey leader, Tony Perkins, who went all apoplectic that the Obama administration has decided to endorse a UN Declaration on Human Rights, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Americans United has the story.

Innit fascinating that Obama's head of the office of faith-based initiatives, up to whom all these greedy, money-grubbing Mammon-loving hypocrites are going to have to suck, is an out, gay man? I have had moments when i doubted Obama's wisdom in his selection of appointments, but that one I flat-out LOVE! I'd love to be a fly-on-the-wall when that meeting goes down...

Obama 'overexposed' - the media's new obsession

.....one would think all of Obama's appearances to explain his bank bailout program and offer reporters a chance to publicly question the president would be a good thing. But NO! God, no! Doesn't Obama realize that he's risking over-exposure, with all the explaining and answering questions and being a public figure? How dare he? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/24/obama-overexposed-the-med_n_178569.html

Yes, Bubble Boy's style was much better and more informative. That's why we knew so much about the coming banking and financial crisis.

The Sounds of Citi

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American corporation - after all Crown Publishing is paying $7 million for George W. Bush's "memoirs." I didn't know the dollar table had sales in the millions.

Citigroup figures if they cannot make money in the world of high finance, they might as well try the something differnet - like the music business.

A couple of months ago I wrote about how insidious and deceptive the credit card industry is. First they nickel and dime us to death, then they exhibit forms of usury never seen before, and finally how they use your application information to target market.

"You're sitting here. And you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. How do you deal with, I mean, explain the...mood and your laughter?...Are you punch drunk?" Steve Kroft, acting like a major dick in the Obama interview, Link

"Did any mainstream, corporate-paid, "serious" journalist ever ask Bush that kind of insolent question? Not that we ever heard of. Only rarely did any journalist even come back at Bush with a challenging follow-up
question, and only the bravest comic in the land (Stephen Colbert) dared to insult the grudge-holding Bush to his face."  Christine Bowman,
 Link

It's the media's job to attack Democrats while covering up for the Bush bastards.

The Senate debated a bill yesterday that would wipe out credit card debt for people in bankruptcy. The bill is "aimed at punishing credit card companies that raise their interest rates to a high level and at giving consumers who may be on the verge of bankruptcy greater leverage to negotiate better deals with those lenders."

Will the people that racked up big balances on their cards be returning everything they bought? Once again, responsible people get screwed.

NRCC calls it "The Pelosi Recession"
...because the Democrats refused to call it "The Bush's recession"

Link

Excerpt:
If you've been hurt at all by the country's economic woes, the National Republican Congressional Committee wants you to blame Pelosi. Monday morning, the NRCC sent out a fundraising e-mail to supporters from Michigan Rep. Dave Camp. The subject line of the e-mail reads, "End the Pelosi Recession," and much of the message is an attack on the speaker.

"Pelosi and her cronies know how they are going to continue to bail out big businesses, pay for their pet projects and spend billions of government dollars this year: massive tax hikes," Camp writes. 'To put it simply, the Democrats' Budget spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. We must work together to end the 'Pelosi Recession,' and start to rebuild our economy with sound and fair principles.'"

...and that charge would've been a lot harder to make if Pelosi and Reid hadn't loaded up the stimulus bill with tons and tons of pork - pork that Obama promised would stop on his watch.

Shredding the Constitution, Again by Garland Nixon  Link

Excerpt:
The term "shredding the constitution" became popular when it became clear that the Bush Administration was deliberately taking unconstitutional actions, hiding them from the public and Congress, and showing utter contempt for those who dared to question their actions. The legal decisions on which they based their actions were generally hidden, and most have been labeled as absurd once reviewed by competent legal experts.

It seems that the "ends justifying the means" attitude in Washington did not leave when the Bush Family moved to Dallas. Congress has decided to take a page from the Bush Administration's play book and deliberately violate the Constitution to achieve what they believe are honorable goals. In the political pandemonium that followed the revelations that AIG executives
were taking huge lumps of taxpayer dollars in the form of bonuses in return for destroying the Company, Congress played the Bush card. They passed a law which retroactively taxes the unconscionable bonuses out of existence. Denying those who were either incompetent, unethical, or a combination of both the opportunity to fleece the US taxpayers is an honorable goal.

Bartcop says: If Congress is going to illegally pass retroactive laws, why don't they pass one that makes it a crime to lie us into a war that kills 4200 soldiers and a million Iraqis and then go arrest those murdering Bush bastards?

GOP begs Cheney to go back in his hole

How's it hangin'.

Remember Dick Cheney? Well, the GOP "leadership" sort of wishes you wouldn't remember him, because, ha ha, turns out the Entire Nation (with the exception of maybe a dozen wingnut bloggers) actually hates his guts. And there he is on the teevee every day, talking about how much he hates Obama and how great things were when Dick Cheney was president. Why won't the Republicans honor his service?

The Hill reports:

Another House Republican lawmaker who requested anonymity said he wasn't surprised that Cheney has strongly criticized Obama early in his term, but argued that it's not helping the GOP cause.

The legislator said Cheney, whose approval ratings were lower than President Bush's during the last Congress, didn't think through the political implications of going after Obama.

Cheney did "House Republicans no favors," the lawmaker said, adding, "I could never understand him anyway."

Other GOP congressmen — some brave enough to use their actual names — suggested that Cheney "shouldn't be so public," go the hell away, and "follow the tradition of the Founding Fathers" — i.e., be dead for 200 years and leave everybody alone.

Go back into hiding, GOP begs Dick Cheney [The Hill]
