Headlines - Saturday March 27

This is excellent news, and given the intellect and demeanor of this president, the events of the meeting are not likely to be overshadowed by the urge to peer into someones soul or any such nonsense like that:

President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sealed a new nuclear arms reduction treaty during a phone call this morning, committing the two nations to a significant new reduction of the strategic missiles each side has deployed, U.S. officials announced Friday.

Flanked by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Obama announced the agreement to reporters at the White House, calling it a historic step toward a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama called nuclear weapons "the darkest days of the Cold War, and the most troubling threats of our time." He hailed the new treaty as the start of a new effort to rid the world of that threat.

"With this agreement, the United States and Russia -- the two largest nuclear powers in the world -- also send a clear signal that we intend to lead," he said.

After speaking with Medvedev, Obama said he will travel to Prague on April 8 to sign the treaty with the Russian leader, noting that the historic event will come just a week before he hosts a summit in Washington on how to control the spread of nuclear material around the world.

Here is a clip of John McCain's rally with Sarah Palin yesterday in Arizona. See, she's bustin' out the leather tit jacket. TeLLyPrOmmTr, notes-on-mah-hand, etc. But just look at John McCain back there. Just look at him. At :32, clapping like that robot monkey with the cymbals. He has no idea WTF is happening. YouTube

Here's another clip just to remind you how lucky we are that Obama won.

I guess it was "Profile a Douchebag" day at the Washington Post. Randy Millam wasn't the only fatassed, disaffected, freeloading loser they profiled today. They also gave us a look at the twisted psyche of Mike "Kristallnacht" Vanderboegh (the militia idiot in Alabama that sent out the clarion call to start breaking windows in congressional offices and at Democratic Party offices around the country).

"Sarah Palin spoke out this week against the health care reform bill, saying, 'Elections have consequences.' Well, of course, elections have consequences. That's why right now, instead of being vice president of the United States, she's trying to get a reality show on the Animal Planet." –Jay Leno

"For God's sake, he desperately has to be kept away from working with children.'"
-- Psychiatrist Werner Huth, to Benny the Rat, who ignored his repeated warnings in the early 1980s about a priest, the Rev. Peter Hullermann,.who went on to rape again Link

Boy, think if the Pope got caught smoking marijuana - now that would be a scandal.
But the systematic rape of thousands of children in 60 countries over decades or centuries?

Yawn.

Bartcop: Wisconsin priest molested 200 boys  - Just another day for the raping Catholics

Link

Excerpt:
Arthur Budzinski says the first time the priest molested him, he was 12 years old at a school for the deaf.

He says he asked Father Lawrence Murphy to hear his confession, and instead the priest sexually assaulted him.

"Big deal - so I like rape. You have a hobby, too, right?"

Budzinski, now 61, was one of about 200 deaf boys at the St. John's School for the Deaf just outside Milwaukee who say they were molested by the priest decades ago in a case threatening to ensnare Pope Benny the Rat.

Some of the allegations became public years ago. But they got renewed attention this week after documents showed  that Murphy was spared because he was protected by the Vatican office led by Cardinal Benny the Rat, now the pope.

Have you ever seen anything more corrupt than the Vatican?
"Give us your money and your child's rectum, that's all we ask."

How many hundreds or thousands of rapes need to be proven to shut them down?

If I had a child, I'd let him go to a Halliburton Roofie party before I'd let a priest near him.

Happy Easter!

To Repeal Health Care Law, GOP Must Elect 26 New Senators, 112 House Members

Health-care reform is now law, and the Republicans' have utterly failed in their misbegotten mission to make killing the bill Pres. Obama's Waterloo, and yet they just can't stop lying.

In the long list of false claims — that reforms would create death panels, lead to rationing, constitute a government takeover, put government bureaucrats between patients and doctors, cover illegal aliens, use taxpayer funds to pay for abortions and the rest — the assertion that they will run this fall on a pledge to "repeal and replace" the reforms may be the most ridiculous of all.

I remember a time when people still believed that there was a sort of boundary between the mainstream right and bugshit crazytown (you had to tilt your head and squint). It was a gap that spoofers like DougJ used to sneak in some great laughs at rightwingers' expense. All gone.

Headline at Americablog:

FOX"s Glenn Becks says situation in America: 'It's 9/11 all over again except we didn't have the collapsing building'

CNN has swapped Tucker and Bob Novak for Erick Erickson and FOX interviews with people so crazy that they make LaRouchies nervous.

DOOCY: Now, he is not a Communist. But you just pointed out that you hold up signs and stuff like that and people make fun of you. What do you think about how some on the other political side have tried to diminish or, you know, or marginalize the Tea Party people?

JACKSON: Well, I guess they're afraid of the power of our passion and our numbers and, you know, you might not say Communist, but I watch Glenn Beck and he's taught me well. Progressive is the new word for Communist, but it's the same goal as government control of everything and it's very obvious that Obama is trying to do that. And I don't want to brag, but I sort of called it before he was elected and when I was on O'Reilly and I said he was a Communist and I got a lot of hate mail, but I got some that said I was a prescient which means "a prophet."

[...] Our government is all evil right now and someone's got to do something.

Hard times, man.

The tea bagger movement is full of racists, you say? Not so, sez the founder:

But Dale Robertson, founder of Teaparty.org, said no one knows who might have yelled out racial epithets during the Capitol Hill protest. He said a Democratic lawmaker refused to accompany Capitol police officers to identify a white man accused of spitting.

"These people could be anybody. I wouldn't put it past the Democrats to plant somebody there," Mr. Robertson said. "They're trying to label the tea party, but I've never seen any racial slurs."

Dale Robertson? That name sounds familiar...where did we hear...oh, yeah, that's right:

Dale Robertson, a tea party activist who operates Teaparty.org, is getting stung for an old photo — taken at the Feb. 27, 2009 tea party in houston — in which he holds a sign reading "congress = slaveowner, taxpayer = niggar."

The message: "F**k with me and I will f**k you back"

That is the message that President Obama has given Prime Minister Netanyahu during his just-concluded visit to Washington. No state dinner, no joint news conference, even leaving a meeting so that Netanyahu could get his shit together.

The same message has, in essence, been sent by
the Right's favorite general.

One of the problems for Netanyahu is that his erstwhile allies back home seem to be intent on embarrassing him at every turn. They seem to like to announce projects that can be viewed as provocative when Netanyahu is trying to make nice with foreign officials. I'm surprised that Joe Biden just didn't say "fuck this noise" and jump back on AF2 during his recent visit.

This is why incitement is a crime

Attempted murder of a federal official. for wanting to make health care more affordable and accessible.

Terroristic threats with unknown white powder sent to another federal official for outspokenness in favor of progress.

Trying to kill a 10-year-old girl and her father for displaying a bumper sticker supporting the majority-elected government.

It's not random, it's not coincidental, it's not mysterious.  It's the obvious consequence of repug eliminationist rhetoric and encouragement of treasonous militias.

NPR has the story:

Last May, about 30 people gathered at a resort in Jekyll Island, Ga., for a series of discussions about "increasing national instability" and President Obama's "socialized" policies.

The island was chosen for symbolic reasons - the initial discussions about creating a Federal Reserve were held there in 1910 - and the attendees met to formulate a plan for bringing their own radical organizations together.

"One of the interesting things about the meeting is how nondenominational it was," says Mark Potok. "There were Holocaust deniers there. There were anti-Semites. There were also people who have none of those feelings, who are all about the idea that the federal income tax is unconstitutional - people from the old[er] militia movements and so on."

Potok is the director of publications and information for the Southern Poverty Law Center. The group's latest Intelligence Report, "Rage on the Right," documents the growth in the number of hate and extremist groups - and how their rhetoric is increasingly entering the mainstream.

Read the whole thing.

Yes, they're pathetic losers. Desperate pathetic losers full of rage, with nothing left to lose.
