No need to wait until they have the facts - Toyota KILLS!

You see the kid in the middle on the right?

Reinventing the wheel with healthcare reform and DADT

Healthcare reform is unpopular. At least, that's what Republicans have been saying. It's the worst thing ever and Americans know it. To listen to the GOP, we're all in agreement here -- everyone hates this thing. But the truth is that Pollster.com's average of polls finds that Americans are split on the issue, 48% anti- to 44% pro-. Not only isn't there a consensus on reform, but there isn't even a majority opinion. Given the Republican campaign of anti-reform propaganda and disinformation, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise -- we have no idea what to think. Further, White House pollster Joel Benenson has pointed out that as much as a third of the antis are supportive of reform, but believe this bill doesn't go far enough. Once the bill is law, he argues, a lot of this contingent will come around to defend it, hoping to use it as a foothold for further reform -- this is a category I already fall into. This shift would likely put the pros in the majority. Keep reading: http://griperblade.blogspot.com/2010/03/reinventing-wheel-with-healthcare.html

100 unsexiest men of the year.

I don't think that Sean Penn or Springsteen should have made the list, but #1 is spot-on.

A)  Yes, Obama DID win the election…and he did it on a clear platform of reforming health care.

B)  While conservatives love to point out that a majority of Americans do not want the proposed health care bill, this is in fact another lie from the right.  Polls indicate that while a slight majority say they are against "Obamacare", when asked on the specific measures in the bill, a majority of those same people are in favor.  That is, when told of the specifics of the bill, they want it.

C)  Since when did Republicans not agree with majority rule?  I recall George W. Bush talking about "political capital" after he barely won the 2004 election.  And was it not Dick Cheney who responded with "So?" when informed that a majority of Americans were opposed to the Iraq war?  What's the difference now that a Democrat is in the White House along with bigger majorities in Congress than the Republicans had during the Bush terms?

D)  Democracy is working.  A supermajority voted in favor of the Senate  health care bill.  The House voted in favor of their version of the health care bill and hopefully will do so again this week when asked to vote on the Senate bill.  While conservatives would hope that Dems govern as if they were the minority, the fact is they're not.

Conclusion:  Barack Obama is the President, Democrats have a majority in Congress, Americans want health care reform.  Deal with it.

Justice Clarence Thomas is married to a teabagger.

As Virginia Thomas tells it in her soft-spoken, Midwestern cadence, the story of her involvement in the "tea party" movement is the tale of an average citizen in action.

"I am an ordinary citizen from Omaha, Neb., who just may have the chance to preserve liberty along with you and other people like you," she said at a recent panel discussion with tea party leaders in Washington. Thomas went on to count herself among those energized into action by President Obama's "hard-left agenda."

But Thomas is no ordinary activist. She is the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and she has launched a tea-party-linked group that could test the traditional notions of political impartiality for the court.

[...]

Thomas is a fan of Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin, author of "Men in Black: How the Supreme Court is Destroying America."

"She is intrigued by Glenn Beck and listening carefully," the bio says.

So?  Does anyone believe that the political leanings of Clarence Thomas' wife has any further influence on his already biased Supreme Court rulings? This guy has been a conservative stooge since being appointed to the Court by Bush 41 in 1991. Before every ruling, he probably asks himself, "Hmm, what would Rush do…?"

Besides…

In 2000, while at the Heritage Foundation, she was recruiting staff for a possible George W. Bush administration as her husband was hearing the case that would decide the election. When journalists reported her work, Thomas said she saw no conflict of interest and that she rarely discussed court matters with her husband.

"We have our separate professional lives," she said at the time.

See?  They "rarely" discuss court matters, so all is good.

Contractors: Tied to Effort to Track and Kill Militants.

Sounds like it's just about time to demote Mr. Valukas.  Damn those pesky examiners.

Woo hoo! Animal Planet will turn 'The Cove' into a TV show.

Why does John Boehner like to encourage terrorism? Or maybe he's terrified that Obama may have success with building a peace plan. We all know that invading and spending billions makes so much more sense than peace talks, right? The White House isn't backing down and so far neither is Netanyahu. Shaking up the relationship is not such a bad thing and it just may deliver positive results. The old model obviously has not been effective at leading towards peace.

It looks as if the climate is right for this country to examine the relationship we have with Israel objectively. Greenwald:

... It's rather difficult to maintain the fiction that only fringe Israel-haters see the connection between our support for Israel and Muslim hatred toward the U.S. when two of America's most respected military officials (responsible for U.S. troops in the region) are making that case explicitly ...

I wonder if the conservatives are gonna start calling him "Betrayus" now?

McCain So Scared of Losing Senate Seat, He's Campaigning With Sarah Palin

'I'm on the one mission to get a politician, to honor, or he's a goner, by the time I get to Arizona.'

Angry old idiot John "Walnuts!" McCain is probably going to lose his beloved Senate seat this year and then be forced to actually live in Arizona, which he hates, so he's even more desperate and crazy than usual. What kind of maverick-y bullshit stunt can he pull to remind Arizona voters just how shamelessly he'll beg for re-election? He's bringing the Snowbilly to the desert!

Grifter broadcast clown Sarah Palin hasn't appeared with Walnuts since he vetoed her big idea about giving her own personal concession speech on Election Night, 2008. She was so upset, you guys! She'd been traveling the nation's illiterate backwaters for two months, smiling and giggling while hillbillies yelled "nigger!" and "terrorist!" That's hard work! Plus, people were mean to her just because she scammed hundreds of thousands of dollars in fancy clothes from the RNC and her teen-aged unmarried daughter had a baby and everybody in Alaska hated her and she couldn't answer a simple teevee interview question without sounding like a drooling idiot, it was awful. And then the guy she called "Sambo," as in "Little Black Sambo," became the president for reals! Ugh, it's called the White House for a reason, y'all.

And now she's going to campaign for McCain, the end. Arizona Daily Star

Okay, but consider the pre-service record, too Veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been running afoul of the law, and some of them have been fortunate enough to appear in front of judges who take their service into account when sentencing them. All well and good - but we have taken a shitload of hinky recruits who had to be admitted on moral waivers because they had criminal records before going in. If they went in to avoid jail (like Track Palin) and end up in trouble again, throw the book at the recalcitrant fuckers and throw away the key.
