Headlines - Thursday June 21

We've got to fire teachers, police, and firefighters. Cut foodstamps and government services. Slash Medicare and Social Security. But, for Republicans at least, there's always plenty of money to throw at nuclear weapons.
###

I don't mean to discount the "Fast and Furious" investigation. I followed what happened in Waco in the '90s and I don't doubt the potential for abuse at the ATF or other federal law enforcement agencies.

But now much of the get-Holder stuff is just because Holder is black? The last big winger target was Van Jones. I seem to remember a few more minor things in the meantime where they went after some women who were white. Okay, and Barney Frank, but he's gay.

It's always about going after black people and, maybe to a lesser extent, women and gays, isn't it?

I'm sure it's all just a huge coincidence.

Catholic League blowhard Bill Donohue is in for a lot of well-deserved grief for his latest douchebaggery, which is blowing up on Buzzfeed.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue, a vocal conservative voice who recently warred with The Daily Show over a "vagina manger," has infuriated prominent Jewish leaders with a private email last week to Philadelphia Rabbi Arthur Waskow. Waskow, a progressive rabbi involved in the Jewish Renewal movement, had criticized the Vatican and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in a Huffington Post op-ed for "attacking the religious freedom of millions of American women and the religious freedom of American nuns" over contraception. Donohue responded with a note to Waskow that launched an email exchange that ended with a warning, forwarded to BuzzFeed by a source close to the rabbi, that "Jews had better not make enemies of their Catholic friends since they have so few of them." Donohue also includes a postscript saying, "I do not have a long nose."
Buzzfeed has all the emails in full.

RELATED: As far as I know, Donohue has yet to publicly comment on the scandal regarding Cardinal Dolan's payoffs to pedophile priests. I've taunted to him to say something on Twitter several times, but he's been uncharacteristically silent.

It's depressing that we actually needed a study for this, but here you go anyway.

12.8 Million Receive Insurance Rebates As A Result Of Obamacare | 12.8 million Americans will receive $1.1 billion in rebates from insurers that have not met minimum spending guidelines in Obamacare, the administration announced Thursday morning. The Affordable Care Act requires insurers to spend 80 to 85 percent of premium dollars on health care services or issue rebates to policy holders. The average rebate is valued at $151 per household.

I hope the Republicans against Obamacare will do the right thing and refuse their checks!

Slate: Where is Mitt Romney's Faith?

Romney doesn't want to talk about his religion. But fellow Mormons say his faith is what would make him an especially effective president.

Opponents of Obamacare have spent $235 million on ads to shape public opinion against the health care law, while supporters of reform have doled out just $69 million to promote it:
