Jonathan Turley: Obama owns Bush's war crimes if he looks the other way

If waterboarding is torture - and Barack Obama has said that it is torture, and torture is a war crime, then the president has committed a war crime if he did order waterboarding. You have to do some heavy lifting to avoid the simplicity of that logic.                 http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Turley_Obama_will_own_Bush_war_0113.html

After this poignant Video of Bill Cosby on Press the Meat:

The last ignoble act of the Bush Justice Department: busts Bill Cosby for voter fraud - By Don Davis

"Not only did Mr. Cosby bring a group of deceased family members in to vote, but he also cast votes on behalf of the entire Huxtable family, the Penn relay team, and the guy who goes by the name of 'Fat Albert."

Bush says he and his White House team had presided over two wars, 9/11, Katrina, and the worst recession since the 1930s, but "we had fun". Yes, so did these people:

"If you handed Leon Panetta a blank map of Asia, I'd bet my life he couldn't plot Baghdad, Kabul or Beijing within 500 miles of their actual locations. (Maybe he can see China from his California think tank?) This shameless hack appointment is the first action by Obama that seriously worries me. Get intelligence wrong and you get dead Americans."        Ralph Peters, (R-Whore) LTC, USA-Ret    Link

That's laughable, trying to pretend Clinton's Chief of Staff is as stupid as Sarah Palin.

BTW, *I* could find those 3 cities on a blank world map, so I have faith that Panetta is at least as smart as I am.

Subject: Did Bush accomplish anything good?

People are asking if Bush accomplished anything good during his presidency.

The answer is - Yes! One thing he did was that he utterly destroyed the Republican Party.

All the myths that Republicans are fiscal conservatives are gone.
The idea that Republicans are better for the economy proved wrong.
Trickle down economics and tax cuts for the rich completely discredited.
Privatizing Social Security is now a joke.

We will have to see if the price to destroy the Republicans was worth the price America has paid to learn the hard way. But at least we can finally say that Republican ideas are an utter failure and hopefully we will never go back there again.

More than 1.3 million people expected to file bankruptcy in 2009.

Police in Greenfield, California arrested Macelino de Jesus Martinez, 36, after he arranged the following dowry for his 14 year old daughter:

1. $16,000
2. 100 cases of Corona
3. 50 cases of Modelo beer
4. several cases of meat
5. two cases of wine
6. 50 cases of Gatorade
7. 50 cases of soft drinks

This dowry seems a bit heavy on the liquid assets, but Martinez insisted that it was a traditional arrangement that was broken by Galindo.

Galindo is facing a charge of statutory rape while Martinez is facing a charge of receiving money for causing a person to cohabitate. Additional charges are possible. Story here.

For the love of God, please make it stop

There's an "exit interview" with Bush's dog Barney in The Washington Times.

At Hillary Clinton's confirmation hearing yesterday, Republican Sen. Richard Lugie said that the Clinton Global Initiative "exists as a temptation for any foreign entity or government that believes it could curry favor through a donation" and that "the bottom line is that even well-intentioned foreign donations carry risk for U.S. foreign policy."

Isn't it funny how Mr. Lugie never had any concerns about the close relationship between the Bush family and the Saudis, or even between
the Bush family and the Bin Laden family, not even after George H.W. Bush was enjoying a lovely breakfast with one of Osama Bin Laden's brother on the morning of the 9/11 attacks. Isn't it funny how Lugar was never concerned when Saudi nationals, including members of the Bin Laden family, were allowed to fly out of the country when the rest of the airline industry was still in shutdown in the days after the attacks. I don't recall Sen. Lugie being concerned about the risks to U.S. foreign policy of the Bush family's coziness with the Saudis. Or is this yet another case of "It's OK if You're a Republican?

The White House has been in full "re-write history" mode the past few months, but even the brilliant Bush spinmeisters couldn't spin the fact that no one really cares about what Bush has to say anymore - and according to the Washington Post, the last two rows had to be filled by White House interns at Chimpy's last press conference because no one showed up.

This is a fantastic story about a coup in the Tennessee state legislature.

Excuse me for not believing a word of this

Dozens of suspected terrorists released by the United States from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are believed to have returned to terrorism activities, according to the Pentagon.

First off, they would only identify one man, with no proof of identity.

Second, these are the same people that routinely identify wedding parties as "terrrorist gatherings," bomb the shit out of them, killing the wedding party, and then deny what happened until it is plainly documented that yes, they did indeed wipe out a wedding. The Pentagon can be relied upon to lie about anything and everything.

That's just the way it is with any war. Everyone lies when it suits their purposes and they think they can get away with it. (Remember "last throes" and "irrational exuberance?")

Third, and let's call it for what it is: If you arrest an innocent man on trumped-up charges, torture him and hold him without charges for several years and then release him without so much as a by-your-leave, can you honestly express any shock if he then decides to take up arms against you?
