The speakers warned the audience about the "continuing availability of abortion, the spread of gay rights, and attempts to remove religion from American public life and school history books." The Virginia-Pilot reported that Gingrich argued that, while Christianity is the foundation of American citizenship, Americans are experiencing a period where they are being "surrounded by paganism"

GINGRICH: I am not a citizen of the world. I am a citizen of the United States because only in the United States does citizenship start with our creator. [...] I think this is one of the most critical moments in American history. We are living in a period where we are surrounded by paganism.

Huckabee also equated America's victory against the British in the Revolutionary War with the right-wing's success in the Proposition 8 fight in California as being miracles "from God's hand."

Fun fact: Newt Gingrich is a non-Pagan 'American citizen' that dodged the draft, led the charge to impeach Clinton while having an affair of his own and refused to pay child support. Mike Huckabee thinks women should be subservient to their husbands, that AIDS victims should be quarantined, and he released a rapist from prison that went on to rape and kill again.

By all means, let's preserve Mike Huckabee's and Newt Gingich's view of what life in America should be like. Because waving bay leaf smoke and dancing around a fire at the Summer solstice is a really bad thing.

The scumbag accused of murdering Dr. Tiller is complaining about "deplorable conditions" in jail. You see, his cell is freezing and he was denied phone privileges. Oh, and he's claiming that more violence is planned if late term abortions keep being done. http://www.salon.com/wires/ap/2009/06/07/D98LUUNG3_us_abortion_shooting

This seems like one of those ticking time bomb scenarios, and if I thought torture was moral or legal, I'd strap this guy to a waterboard.

Bishop Nicholas A. DiMarzio of Brooklyn is reportedly threatening dire consequences for both legislators and the Church if New York lifts the statute of limitations to allow victims of child sex-abuse to sue. The one-year suspension will, according to the Bishop, bankrupt the Church and lead to social and political backlash for legislators.

The Bishop has suggested that, if forced to bear the cost of all of its abuse of children in the past, the Church would have to close parishes, suspend social programs, and risk bankruptcy.

I can't imagine how high the potential scope of abused children is.

In New York, Niagara County Court Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza has issued a controversial ruling that police can taser a suspect who refuses to voluntarily submit a DNA sample. In this case, Ryan S. Smith sought to suppress DNA evidence that linked him to two crimes because of the use of the force against him. When told of a court order to obtain a second sample for DNA testing, Smith reportedly stated "You are gonna have to Taser me if you want my DNA." That apparently sounded like a pretty good idea to the officers in the room.

Story here.

Meet the new death squad we trained in Iraq:

"All these guys want to do is go out and kill bad guys all day," he says, laughing. "These guys are shit hot. They are just as good as we are. We trained 'em. They are just like us. They use the same weapons. They walk like Americans."

Don't forget to wear blue every Friday to support the soldiers and their mission.

More clues to God's identity!

One of those right-wing circle-jerks has been going on in Virginia, and the wingnuts are vying to see who can be holiest — it looks like a contest between Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. It's boring, except, I think, for the revelation about the nature of God.

Huckabee was not to be outdone in the use of hyperbole. The former Republican presidential candidate called the United States a "blessed" nation whose victory against the British in the Revolutionary War was "a miracle from God's hand," indeed the same type of miracle that defeated the legalization of gay marriage in California.

Since we know how both of those victories were accomplished, that tells us something about the nature of the agent behind them. Thanks to Mike Huckabee, we now know that God is a) French, and b) Mormon.

Norm Coleman:

"In the end, we need to compete, as I've said before, we need to compete in each and every kind of forum," said Coleman. "And whether it's on the ground traditionally, or today it's in — it's in the ethernet. It's in the — you know, it's online. It's in the blogs, it's Twitter, it's Facebook, and the next iteration."

Take that, Ted Stevens.

Jim Kitterman was an American who owned a construction company that did business in Iraq, and he was  found murdered last month in the Green Zone.  He was bound, gagged, blindfolded and stabbed repeatedly.  His body was found later, in his car, in the heavily fortified district, near where his construction company was based.

This weekend Iraqi authorities arrested five Americans who were employees of Mr. Kitterman's company and charged them with his death.

The slaying of Kitterman was shocking, even by Baghdad standards, and it took place at a time when openness was increasing, blast walls were coming down and Iraqi forces were starting to take responsibility for more of their own security.

Control of the Green Zone transferred to the Iraqis on January 1 of this year when the much-touted security agreement went into effect, and they have begun removing some of the blast walls from around the area in an attempt to return a sense of normalcy as violence in the city has declined in recent months.

How the Iraqis handle this case is going to be indicative of where they are as a nation, as judged by the ability of their justice system to handle such a case and render a just verdict arrived at within the confines of the rule of law.

Margaret & Helen: Pat Buchanan is a cracker

Margaret, this old gal has clearly lived too long. Never in my life did I think I would see a bunch of old, white men claiming they are being discriminated against. I am sure the Hispanic women who cleaned their houses today are having a good laugh… or a good cry.  Honestly, the absurdity of it all is more than I can take.  Stick me in a hole and throw some dirt on top of me.  I'm done.

If you are born a white, male Christian in today's world and life didn't turn out the way you wanted, you probably have only yourself and the Rush Limbaugh Show to blame.  Some exceptions probably do exist, but if you're a commentator on a cable news channel you're probably the rule and not the exception.

Pat Buchanan is an idiot. I mean it. Really.

U.S. might put North Korea back on the
terror list, and bomb the shit out of Iran like we did Iraq if they refuse to abandon their civilian nuclear program.
