Headlines - Monday

A judge has ordered the Justice Department to produce White House memos that provide the legal basis for the Bush administration's post-Sept. 11 warrantless wiretapping program.

Correction. My bad.

In a previous entry I mentioned that Ben Bernanke had been CEO of Goldman Sachs, which was incorrect. It was actually Henry Paulson that served as their Chairman and CEO.

Thank you, Dick, for keeping me honest.

Today on FOX News, McSame campaign manager Rick Davis revealed his strategy for winning on Wednesday:  Taking Obama to court in every state that Mcsame doesn't win.

Pay attention folks. The real battle for the Presidency will only partially be fought on Tuesday. The GOP still controls the courts.

Should Obama actually come out ahead by anything less than a massive landslide, the GOP will sue, sue, sue.

So vote. Get your friends to vote. Drive people to the polls. Do whatever you can to run up the scoreboard. Because the alternative is going to be five of nine old people deciding that everything we did in the last twelve months didn't matter and that millions of our votes didn't count.

Jesus' General

Tomorrow's election day. Have you done everything you can to help John McCain, Sarah Palin, and the rest of the Republican ticket? Sure many of you have been out there educating voters about Obama's abundance of melanin. Some of you have even hung Obama effigies from your trees or shouted "ni**er" or "kill him" at a rally. But is that really enough? Are you covering all the bases? Have you done anything to hamper the effectiveness of Obama's animal allies?

Last night, patriots slaughtered a goat and left its severed head at a Charlie Brown for Congress campaign office. How many severed goat heads have you delivered?

A few weeks ago, another patriot
shot a bear cub and wrapped it in Obama signs as a warning to Obama voters. How many baby bear cubs have you killed for McCain-Palin '08?

Killing animals and the using their bodies or heads to threaten Democrats and other lesser Americans has always been an important part of GOTV efforts - it's a Republican tradition. McCain's minority outreach advisor, George Allen was
stuffing deer heads into black families' mailboxes while Obama was worrying about the prom, and God knows what kind of unnatural acts Strom Thurmond performed on road kill.

So what are you waiting for? Go out and shoot a wolf from a plane or commit an act of of extreme cruelty on a bunny before it is too late.

Nancy Greggs

Let's face it – none of us really know what kind of president Barack Obama will turn out to be. And it could happen that despite all of our hopes, he could wind up being a total disaster. I mean, it's not like it hasn't happened before.

Think about it:

Wouldn't it be terrifying if President Obama was repeatedly told about imminent threats against the nation, and he simply dismissed them out-of-hand? And what if the US was attacked, and he just sat in a classroom, reading a kids' book, because he didn't know what to do?

Wouldn't it be just awful if President Obama started ignoring the Constitution, and declared himself unaccountable to anyone? And what if he started cranking out "signing statements", began pardoning people who were instrumental in outing a covert CIA agent, or allowed White House emails to be deleted in complete defiance of the law? Worse yet, what if he started wiretapping American citizens' phone calls, and started snooping into their internet activities?

As luck would have it ...

US Deaths in Iraq Plunge to Wartime Low in October:

U.S. deaths in Iraq fell in October to their lowest monthly level of the war, matching the record low of 13 fatalities suffered in July. Iraqi deaths fell to their lowest monthly levels of the year. Eight of the 13 Americans died in combat, most of them in northern Iraq where al-Qaida and other Sunni insurgent groups remain active. The U.S. military suffered 25 deaths in September and 23 in August.

Gas Prices Below $3 in Some Areas:

Some areas are now reporting average gasoline prices below the $3-a-gallon threshold as price continue to fall in the area, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.019 per gallon, which is 20.4 cents less than last week, 59 cents lower than last month, and 12 cents under last year…

"For the last two weeks, we've seen drops of 3-4 cents per day," Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring said in a statement. "The downward pace has certainly accelerated, and it's difficult to tell when or where it will stop."

Palin lies again, falsely claiming an "independent organization" estimated that Obama would destroy 6 million jobs, when the organization was actually the right-wing Heritage Foundation, and their finding was that Obama's plans would block the future creation of jobs.

In recent weeks, John McCain has been working extra hard to distance himself from Bush. His campaign has even tried to argue that Obama actually represents a third term of Bush.

Yesterday at a rally in Pennsylvania, however, McCain — who once said that he would "be honored to be anywhere with Bush under any circumstances" — couldn't help but throw out more praise. The New York Times reports:

So it was a bit surprising when Mr. McCain offered praise of President Bush on Sunday, reprising a line he has hardly used, if he has used it at all, since the Republican primary battles ended. It came as Mr. McCain praised Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor and Homeland Security secretary, who had introduced him.

"I think that Tom Ridge — and President Bush — deserve some credit for the fact there's not been another attack on the United States of America since 9/11,'' he said.

I love how the wingnuts always forget to mention that 9/11 happened on Bush's watch.

The Washington Post reports today that loyal Bushies are engaging in upbeat talk to mask "disappointment and frustration among many White House staffers," who see their boss as "a good and steadfast man who has gotten a bad rap":

"Everybody kind of wanted to spend the last 100-plus days doing some legacy things, and the financial crisis has thrown a wrench into that," said one prominent Republican who regularly talks with senior White House officials.

"You have a combination of no legacy stuff, a horrible economic mess and the likelihood that Obama is going to win," this person added. "There is a real sadness there."

Be careful what you pray for

Religious Americans are praying and fasting as we move closer to election day. They are praying that Christians will get up off the couch and go out and vote (for McCain/Palin) because they stand for the "sanctity of life."

"We have just days to pray that someone who upholds the sanctity of life and marriage between one man and one woman will win," said Pam Olsen, co-pastor with her husband of the International House of Prayer in Tallahassee, Fla.

Olsen, who personally supports Republican John McCain, is organizing a marathon of prayer, fasting and Bible reading at the Capitol starting Saturday until the state's polls close.

"The outcome is up to God," she said.
This is going on country wide.

If there really is a "God" up there and he really does value the "sanctity of life" and he really can sway the electorate, which candidate do you think he'd pick? I don't have a clue, although I think that the God of Jesus would choose the candidate who is less likely to bomb the shit out of sovereign nations... but then again the Old Testament God would probably choose McCain.

What would an Obama win say to all the religious zealots? Will they be convinced that God chose Obama and leave the presidency in "God's hands" as it were?

After quickly burning through $143 billion, some financial experts now fear that the bailout may not work for AIG, and some argue that company shareholders and taxpayers would have been better served by a bankruptcy filing.

Anyone who believed that this bailout was anything other than a way of getting entrenched incumbents in Washington -- yes, Democrats as well as Republicans -- through the election, was an idiot. With absolutely no guarantees that the bailout of the company would do anything to keep it from collapsing, and no accountability whatsoever as to what the company would actually do with the money, this money -- our money -- was shoring up an expensive beach house with toothpicks in advance of a Category 5 hurricane.

Barack Obama's talk about tax cuts is at this point disingenuous. He is not going to be able to cut taxes. I understand why he has to do it; he remembers the ghost of Walter Mondale saying at the 1984 Democratic National Convention, "President Reagan will raise your taxes and so will I. He won't tell you; I just did." And we all know what happened to him.

This is where we are today, thanks to the Bush family and their cronies, who ALWAYS believed that the world was a private fiefdom for the benefit of their family members and friends, to John McCain, who supported policies that fed this notion and became one of those friends so he could benefit, and to spineless Democrats who have been too lazy or too frightened to articulate the reality that Ronald Reagan was wrong -- you can't have everything you want and it's all free if you just give the already wealthy even more.
