or "desperately grabbing at straws".
Do you remember when Glenn Beck promised a miracle from God at his 8-28 rally? On his Fox News program today Beck unveiled the power of the Lord through flying geese. A flyover by some geese is what Beck is citing as his miracle. Beck called it "God's flyover."
Beck said, "I want to show you first that miracle that happened at 10:59. There are several versions of this, or at 9:59. There are several versions of what was happening. Do we have the videotape? At 9:59, what happened was there was a flock of geese. It was a flyover if you will. Somebody caught it on tape. Here's the flyover. This was happening just as the opening music was starting. We wanted to have a flyover, but you can't flyover in the District of Columbia. It was perfect coordination and perfect timing. Coincidence? Maybe? I think it was God's flyover. It was not supposed to happen. We couldn't get a flyover. We couldn't even get anybody dressed in a military uniform to present the flag. We tried for almost a year. We couldn't get it done. Thank God, we had our flyover."
Unfuckingreal. Because geese never fly south during the waning days of summer.
Seriously, Beck, if God really wanted to give you a sign, douche, he would have sent a flock of bald eagles! PATRIOTIC BALD EAGLES, WITH FUCKING AK-47s CLUTCHED IN THEIR TALONS!
Face it, douchenozzle. Your "Down with Melanin" rally was a flop.Damned Christians.
Look, I'm willing to accept that there are moderate Christians. Good people who just want to live their lives the way they want. But it's hard to believe that the extremists don't speak for them when they're all so silent on their brethren's crimes. Our wake-up call actually came back in May, when a mosque in Jacksonville, Florida was firebombed by radical Christian extremists. It was overlooked -- called an isolated incident -- and we all moved on, foolishly believing that it wouldn't happen again. We aren't some backwater third world nation, we thought, surely our Christian population is civilized.
I can't believe the unmitigated gall of Paul Bremer to suggest that the U.S. should continue to occupy Iraq until it becomes democratic. WTF? Seriously, dude, weren't you the one who fucking disbanded the Iraqi army, releasing 200K well-trained, angry Sunni soldiers into a jobless economy with ready access to Saddam's old weapon caches?
This line from the linked article made me chuckle:
"The dismantling of the Iraqi Army in the aftermath of the American invasion is now widely regarded as a mistake that stoked rebellion among hundreds of thousands of former Iraqi soldiers…"
Yeah, well I regarded it as a spectacularly dumbass idea the moment Bremer made in in May 2003. Also, in case you've forgotten, Bremer was the dumbass who kept telling us that things were turning a corner in Iraq, and stability was always "just 6 months away." Well asshole, it's now 2010, and the Sunnis are going all "Hurt Locker" on Shi'ite ass, and the corner sure as hell isn't in sight.
Frankly, I was surprised to hear from Bremer at all – it's hard to believe he is really either that stupid or delusional. My guess is this is just the first of a series of salvos from the reactionaries trying to blame the Democrats for the inevitable failure of Shrubya's Iraqi Fiasco, just like the wrong-wing blow-hards already do about Vietnam ("we won every battle…if only we had nuked Hanoi…blah blah blah").
You just knew there was going to be a battle of numbers over how many attended Glenn Beck's Restoring My Riches rally this weekend. Numbers have ranged from CBS's 87,000 estimate to Beck's own 300,000 – 650,000 figure. But leave it to Michele Looneytunes Bachmann to take it over the top.
"The crowds were overwhelming, and if you saw the aerials on the Drudge Report this weekend, there was an aerial photo. Unofficially, off the record, we talked to one of the guys from the National Park Police who told us he thought it was 1.6 million. There had to be over a million people there. People were packed in from the Washington Monument all the way to the Lincoln Memorial. And for anyone who's ever been there, that's a huge area."
Why, Minnesota? Why her?
Balancing the Federal budget on the backs of the poor, the veterans and the old is a trick of the Confederate party and their fellow-travelers in the DLC/Blue Dogs. President Obama is being utterly foolish in buying into their schemes. He should be attacking them, hammer and tong.
After all, how much education does one need to be a serf?
A couple of thousand miles to the east, the teabaggers in Ohio are showing that they are from the root of gay-bashers that infect much of the Confederate party. Of their fifteen points of utter insanity, three of them target gay people directly:
3. Marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman, any other type of Union is not marriage. As you can see in point #2, they also believe that pollution is part of the plan of their Dear and Fluffy Lord and if He doesn't like people fucking up His world, then He will fix it.
4. Children should not be placed into foster homes where the parents are homosexual, bisexual, or transgender.
10. I oppose the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy of the military and believe that all same sex partners should be banned from combat duty in the military because of the propensity to transmit blood-borne diseases in the theatre of battle.
Point #7 betrays their utter ignorance and xenophobia, as you already have to be a citizen to vote.
If you wanted to sum up the Tea party's planks if a few words, it would be this: Xenophobia, homophobia, scientific ignorance and acting as the useful idiots for the rich.
What does the IDF find justified? As Lenin reminds us, shooting a 13-year-old Palestinian girl and then going over and emptying a magazine into her to "confirm the kill," that was considered justified. (My old posts on the case.)
