Lamest excuse ever

Rep. Joe Walsh's "apology"to the woman he screamed at? He was hungry.

I do these cup of joe's every wkend, I show up at a coffee shop or restaurant anywhere in district and anyone can come meet with me and talk to me about anything. They are fun, engaging sessions, I often get people who disagree w me on issues at these events and the conversation can be very spirited. I am very passionate at these events as well as at my town halls. This was no different except I was working on an empty stomach and had a quicker fuse than normal.

I'm going to try that line next time I yell at a co-worker, or better yet, my boss (after all, Walsh is an employee of his constituents, right? RIGHT?). "Sorry, I was amped up on coffee and no food." Assmunch.

The International Energy Agency warns that we're just five years away from irreversible climate change. "The door is closing," agency economist Fatih Birol said. "I am very worried -- if we don't change direction now on how we use energy, we will end up beyond what scientists tell us is the minimum [for safety]. The door will be closed forever."

Tony Perkins On DOMA Vote

"Today's vote disrespects Americans across the country who want to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman - and have done as much in the 31 states who have passed statewide referenda in favor of marriage. It will also require Americans in every state to subsidize homosexual couples by using tax dollars to provide them with federal benefits. Marriage is not some prize that liberals can award to a small, vocal and already well-off special interest group. Marriage between one man and one woman was created prior to the formation of any governments and is given benefits by governments because it uniquely contributes to a productive society." - FRC president Tony Perkins.

UPDATE: Even though everybody on Capitol Hill understands that the DOMA repeal battle effectively ended today, the Family Research Council has
just launched a fundraising campaign in the name of stopping it. They never miss a chance to have another old lady eating cat food, do they?

"I don't think it requires us to go negative in the sense of us running a bunch of ads that are false, or character assassinations," Obama told Univision News. "It will be based on facts … We may just run clips of the Republican debates verbatim. We won't even comment on them, we'll just run those in a loop on Univision and Telemundo, and people can make up their own minds." - President Obama in interview with Univision.

I think Occupy Wall Street would have a greater impact nationwide if more Americans realized the extent of wealth inequality here. In chart form:

Americans know rich people are rich, and most Americans support raising taxes on the rich, but clearly too many of us don't know how much of the nation's wealth is owned by the rich — and therefore we're unwilling to push for a progressive rebuild of the middle class. Instead, we worship the rich, and too many middle and lower class Americans inexplicably protect them out of some kind of aspirational idealism. But as the rich own more and more of the nation's wealth the less likely it is that the aspirational underclasses will be able to rise to the level of their heroes. No middle class, no bridge to wealth.

Wherein John McCain reaches into his Six Demon Bag and pulls out a corporate tax holiday in the name of "yachts, corporate jets, all that kind of thing," while speaking at the Reuters Washington Summit yesterday.

"If you brought $1.5 trillion back to the United States of America, it's bound to have some positive effect somewhere," he said at the Reuters Washington Summit. "I don't see how it would not. Even if they buy more yachts and … corporate jets and all that, it's bound to have some effect."

Oh. It will have an effect.

The effect would be an explosion of the deficit that would send even more investments overseas.

Don't Republicans really hate the deficit?

WH might force GOP to vote against payroll tax cut right before Christmas: Sam Stein at HuffPost:
With the payroll tax cut set to expire at the end of 2011, the White House is increasingly looking to the lead-up to the year-end holiday recess as the make-or-break moment for the policy's future. While the Senate's adjournment date is not yet determined, the House of Representatives is eyeing a Dec. 8 end to the legislative calendar. Both adjournments will likely be pushed back as lawmakers weigh a host of other legislative matters before heading back to their districts.

"I find it hard to believe that these members of Congress are going to go to National Airport on December 23 and go home, and basically tell their constituents your taxes are going up $1,000 next year and we didn't do anything to help the economy," said one administration official.

WASHINGTON Senate Democrats rejected a Republican bid today to overturn FCC rules that are set to go into effect later this month to enforce so-called "net neutrality."

Religious nutbags across the country are getting more and more desperate when it comes to slapping homosexuals upside the head with the Bible.

Fighting against a tide of equality, these people are determined to inflict their bastardized version of Christianity on all of us—including our children.1  And if that means sanctioning the physical assault of young people, then goddammit, that's what they're gonna do.

It's kind of amazing how broken every institution in this country is, with moral cretins, cowards, and sociopaths seemingly in charge of everything these days. So seeing one judge who still has his wits about him and who hasn't been consumed by the machine is a refreshing change:

Obama Caves To Environmental Groups, Election 2012 Has Begun

'And I'm telling you, Nobama, at the top of my lungs!'

Barack Obama's administration has been, uhm, terrible when it comes to environmental issues. Not that he ever had any kind of "environmental record" beyond believing some coal industry press release about a fantasy form of fuel called "clean coal," but the assumption had (wrongly) been that a Liberal Democrat might be somewhat sympathetic to the environmental concerns of, say, the vast majority of Americans. (Even Republican voters overwhelmingly support policies that protect the air we breathe, water we drink, etc.) But as we have learned over the past three years, the Obama Administration has been pretty Meh on the environment. Good thing the whole world isn't melting, hahaha. ANYWAY, now the White House has caved to the environmental groups on this whole Keystone Tar Sands Filthy Death Pipeline, because we're now officially within a year of the election, and nobody votes like the environmental people, unless they've been repeatedly shit on by the supposed Liberal Democrat administration. And she's not really a human being, she's a plague-flea infested rat. (Apoligies to rodents, fleas and the bubonic plague.) On Sean Hannity's radio show today, Ann Coulter called President Obama a "Marxist Muslim" then quickly added that "he's not really a Muslim. He's an atheist." Way to hit all the buttons for the mouthbreathers, Ann.

Tea Party People Bilked of $19 Million With Phony Wingnut TV Scheme

Nothing can go wrong!

A group of Tennessee conservatives say they were easily bilked out of $19 million because some guy said, "Hey give me all your money and I will make a Tea Party TeeVee Network, all about your favorite subject: yourselves." And then the guy allegedly took the money and ran, and now the Tennessee teabaggers are suing him because they are "judicial activists." One of the dupes is/was Michele Bachmann's state campaign finance director, so it's good to know that Bachmann maintains her high standards nationwide. And even at the reduced-expectations definition of a "television network" in 2011 — a website with a video plugin — the "Tea Party HD" scam was magical. According to the lawsuit, "It was an investment scheme to defraud politically conservative-minded citizens who support the Tea Party mission." Sucks to be a sucka! READ MORE »
