Headlines - Friday

Last week CIA Director Leon Panetta said, "It's almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it's almost as if he's wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that's dangerous politics."

This week, CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said, "He did not say that, he was simply expressing his profound disagreement with the assertion that President Obama's security policies have made our country less safe. Nor did he question anyone's motives."

Grandpa Walnuts McCain told Fox News on Monday that Panetta should apologize and retract his statement, which he called "really out of bounds."

National health: so whose side is Obama on, anyway?

I'm getting a bit confused. On hand #1, Obama says he thinks we need a "public health option" if for no other reason than to take care of the people the insurance companies don't want. On hand #2, his HHS Sec, Kathleen Sibelius, told NPR yesterday that all public health options are "off the table", that they ought to be because single payer is "a bad direction to go" and, furthermore (just in case the insurance companies Rahm wants donating to the Democrats next year had any doubts or fears) that the president - the president elected by the people who are the 60+% who want single payer - has no plans at all to create one. None

The real victims of hate crimes

It's important to remember that no matter how insane or violent right wing extremists become, the real victims are those on the right. When an abortion provider was shot in Kansas, the real victim was Bill O'Reilly. When the Department of Homeland Security drafted a report on the danger of right wing extremism, the real victims were people at teabag protests. And now the right is being victimized once again.

In 1994, William Osborne was convicted of kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault and first-degree assault in Alaska. He was refused an opportunity to retest his DNA despite the fact that a less accurate and reliable test was used before this trial. He filed a federal lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, arguing that the decision deprived him of his rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws — relying specifically on the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

In a split 5-4 decision, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. ruled that an individual cannot demanded access or testing to DNA material after his conviction becomes final in District Attorney's Office v. Osborne (08-6).

Fact: John Roberts, who pledged moderation during his confirmation hearing, has sided with the prosecution over the defendant, the state over the condemned, the executive branch over the legislative, and the corporate defendant over the individual plaintiff in every major case since being confirmed.

Lindsey Graham, third puzzle piece, along with Joe Lieberman and John McCain, of the Senate's most bromantic Warring Loser Triumvirate, has come out to defend his good pal and homewrecker John Ensign, of sex affair fame. Graham considers Ensign's sexings a personal matter on which he should keep his mouth shut, because, well, hehehe… we've all got shit on us, don't we now?

"I think he will be welcomed back by his colleagues and go back to being a good senator," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, who said Ensign shouldn't have resigned his leadership spot.

Graham downplayed the political impact this would have on the GOP, saying, "Most Americans look at this as a personal situation."

Graham let out a laugh and said: "I've got plenty of sins that I'm not going to share with anyone else."

What ever could he mean, and what behavior would he consider sinful? Graham couldn't possibly have any sex affairs in his background, since he has never been married. That is so weird, how Lindsey Graham has never been married. You'd think he would've gotten married at some point. A family values politician from the South, right? That is just so weird, that Lindsey Graham never got married.

We can't buy American in our stimulus package, but they can buy Chinese in theirs - and it could hamper our green economy

It's official: China wants to shut foreign companies out of its 4-trillion-yuan ($586 billion) economic stimulus package. The "Buy Chinese" command laid down publicly by top planners in Beijing will unavoidably intensify the tension between China and its trading partners.

A controversial "buy Chinese" policy could leave overseas manufacturers of wind turbines and other renewable energy technologies locked out of the bidding for new low-carbon projects undertaken as part of China's $586bn (£361bn) economic stimulus package.

Well this is nice:

The House on Thursday used the first spending bill for 2010 to notify the White House that it will not go along with President Barack Obama's plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The House voted 259-157 for the $64.4 billion package to fund many of Obama's law enforcement and science priorities in the budget year starting in October. But the bill denies Obama money to close the facility next year and establishes strict restrictions for the transfer of detainees.

Already this week, the House showed its defiance of Obama's goal of shutting down the facility by approving a $100 billion war-spending bill that stipulates that it will not allow the use of federal money to close Guantanamo in the final months of this budget year. That bill passed the Senate on Thursday and is heading to the White House.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I sure am loving the results of being in the majority party and also this new era of fiscal responsibility.

$1.2 trillion on bailout

$787 billion stimulus

$3.6 trillion dollar budget

$800 billion on TARP

$106 billion for the wars

And now another $64.4 billion on law enforcement and science?

Former Sens. Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and Howard Baker joined forces this week to put out a health care plan 15 months in the making. Daschle and Dole have been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to lobby on behalf of key players in the health care industry. In addition, the company that presented those findings, the Bipartisan Policy Center, counts as a major fundraiser one of the country's largest pharmaceutical companies.

After demonstrating family values and how much he values traditional marriage by doing the wild thing with a staffer, John Ensign (R-NV) has resigned from his leadership position in Congress. Now, the Lousiana Democratic Party is calling on diaper-wearing prostitute-loving adulterer Sen. David Vitter to resign his leadership position in the Republican Party. Of course Vitter is refusing to do so, because apparently wearing diapers with hookers while being married is less of a sin that just committing adultery with a staffer.

James W. Van Brunn likes Teh Kiddie Porn: Authorities discovered child pornography on a computer used by James W. von Brunn, the 88-year-old white supremacist accused of killing a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum last week, according to court documents filed by the FBI.

PETA apparently is upset that Obama killed that fly. They wish he hadn't. They think he's a bad example of how we should act towards other living beings. So they've sent him a humane fly trap, which allows the trapper to release the live fly outside, where it can fly off and find some shit to lay a kajillion eggs in and then go off and annoyingly spread shit germs!

They've gone over the edge this time. What's next, mosquitoes? How about the rights of germs? Isn't it also unfair to kill pneumonia germs in the prime of their lives?

Why you should eat at a real italian restaurant rather than a fake one

The Olive Garden is joining the Wingnut outrage against David Letterman:
Following a week of back and forth between CBS late night comic David Letterman and Sarah Palin over a crude joke he told about the Alaska Republican governor's daughter, the Olive Garden restaurant says it is canceling all of its scheduled ads on Letterman's "Late Show" for the rest of the year.

In an email to a Letterman critic obtained by POLITICO, a spokeswoman for the Italian restaurant chain wrote that "there will be no more Olive Garden ads scheduled for 'The Late Show' with David Letterman in this year's broadcast schedule," citing the talk show host's "inappropriate comments."

Olive Garden, the faux Italian restaurant of the Wingnuts.

The Washington Post just fired Daniel Froomkin, saying his column has "run its course."

Meanwhile, David Broder (started in 1966), is still fresh as a daisey, and George Will (started in 1979) still has pep!

Every time Bush used "god's will" to justify unprovoked war, torture, shredding the Constitution, shitting on treaties, burning the planet to a crisp, drowning New Orleans and sentencing anyone not filthy rich to disease, poverty and death, it spawned a million blog posts.

If not for fighting the good fight defending constitutional separation of church and state against theocratic totalitarianism, the liberal blogosphere would not exist.

Yet now, in the year of its greatest victory, the supposed "leaders" of the liberal blogosphere have decided to cave to the freakazoids.

"Time to man up, Barack. It's unseemly to keep blaming your predecessors. I mean, why stop at Bush? Why not go back and blame Hoover?"  - the vulgar Pigboy, pretending again

Butt Rush, Clinton handed Bush peace and prosperity. Bush turned that into a bankrupt country mired in two wars. WTF is wrong with you?
