Only 1,251 days to go until the first primary. The horror.

Israel lifts more checkpoints after Obama speech - (Reuters) - Israel lifted restrictions at two checkpoints in the West Bank on Friday, the army said, after US President Barack Obama urged Israel..

Gosh, the only positive thing I remember happening after Dubya gave a speech was the Turkish shoemaking company that claimed its sales skyrocketed after some reports said it made the shoes that the journalist threw at the Disaster Monkey.

Gag Me With Clean Coal

Take a revitalizing breath of those clean coal emissions from the average coal plant, filled with carbon monoxide, mercury, arsenic and lead - all deadly toxic to humans in high amounts. Breathe deeply the pestilence that is clean coal.

And in a coal-related story:

The celebration was short for the Obama administration's expected crackdown on devastating coal-mining practices in Kentucky and West Virginia.

Obama caves in to coal pressure.

He sure is a fantastic speaker and world traveler though.

Morford: Nice Try, Dick

Your mumbled, half-assed support of gay marriage, Mr. Cheney? Not a chance

Sorry, Dick. You can't have it. You can't have even a moment of credit, a glimpse of sympathy, any sort of merciful forgiveness just because you sort of, kind of half-assedly came out in support of gay marriage, again, even though you actually didn't.

You think liberals and the gay movement should somehow be grateful that you, the right's most shameful hard-line fearmonger, America's most beloved torture fanatic and destroyer of civil liberties and humanitarian rights worldwide, famed wiretapper and Halliburton war profiteer extraordinairre, that you recently reiterated your jumbled, caveat-thick "support" of basic civil rights for homosexuals? Are you joking?

Ok, this is bad: reports on unemployment, deficit and family income paint dark picture

250px-Nuclear_fireball

There is a slew of reports this week that paint a pretty bleak picture. The Labor Department has placed the unemployment rate at 9.4 percent (the highest since 1983), If you add "temp workers" the rate is higher. In the meantime, another report indicates that over 16% of personal income of the United States is now coming from the government. http://jonathanturley.org/2009/06/05/ok-this-is-bad-reports-on-unemployment-deficit-and-family-income-paint-dark-picture/#more-11604

A heartbreaking absence of empathy

Cheyenne Cherry has a very pretty name. It's too bad that the person isn't quite so pretty a human being.

She and an unidentified juvenile allegedly broke into Valerie Hernandez's Tinton Ave. apartment on May 6 and trashed the place. Then in a shocking act of animal abuse, they tossed the woman's kitten, Tiger Lily, into the stove and cranked up the temperature, ASPCA assistant director Joe Pentangelo said.

Cherry told authorities that she and her accomplice "thought we would play a joke on Valerie and mess up her apartment." The duo bolted from the apartment with DVDs and packages of noodles, Pentangelo said.

"She didn't want to hear the cat crying and scratching at the oven door," Pentangelo said. Firefighters found the female cat's remains smoldering in the oven after neighbors complained of smoke coming from Hernandez's apartment.

I simply do not understand that kind of behavior at all. Why would anyone commit such a random act of unmitigated cruelty? A kitten is a small thing in the world…but it seems to me that how we treat the small and helpless is a measure of how we see ourselves.

Remember how the Blue Dogs fubared the stimulus plan? Well they're getting ready to do it again to health care reform.

Please keep talking, Sarah

Sarah Palin still wants to be president. I think that's a fine goal - she can be president of Alaska as soon as we cut the 675,000 welfare queens who comprise the population of that state loose to fend for themselves and stop sucking up federal tax dollars to pave a couple hundred miles of road that one person lives on. Let the libertarians and separatists fend for themselves. If they want to bail on the experiment that is the United States, let them. Good riddance to some bad, inbred, illiterate and uneducable garbage. http://theygaveusarepublic.com/diary/2877/please-keep-talking-sarah

inhofe

ThinkProgress reports…

Sen. Jim Inhofe said today that President Barack Obama's speech in Cairo was "un-American" because he referred to the war in Iraq as "a war of choice" and didn't criticize Iran for developing a nuclear program.

Inhofe, R-Tulsa, also criticized the president for suggesting that torture was conducted at the military prison in Guantanamo, saying, "There has never been a documented case of torture at Guantanamo."

"I just don't know whose side he's on," Inhofe said of the president.

If noted Xristian Xrazy Senator Inhofe (R-AIPAC) does not know whose side our Language-of-the-Koran Speaking Closeted Muslim Socialist Magic Negro Overlord and Re-Education Camp Counselor is on, then who does?

(I'm beginning to wish the GOP would quit inventing new invectives against the Carebear. It's getting hard to remember them all.)

After waging a months-long war against the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC) lost his final battle yesterday, when the state supreme court ordered him to accept the $700 million in stimulus funds he had opposed. The court, in a unanimous decision made "with blazing fast speed," took extra steps to try to ensure Sanford obeys their ruling.
