Headlines - Tuesday

The peaceful nation

Some 52 percent of Israelis say the country should bomb Iran's nuclear reactor, while 35 percent are against, the poll found.

Most say it's time to kill Bush's No Child Left Behind program, but not Obama.

And in other Bushbama news: The Obama Officials Blocking Accountability for Bush Crimes:

Yes, But Will Rush Anoint Him?

With McCain in ignoble retirement, Sarah degenerating into the kind of long-running, permanent joke Jay Leno used to pray for, and Newt leaving his usual slime trail wherever he goes, the Pubs are desperately casting around for a party leader who isn't a) under indictment, b) an obvious racist boob, or c) one of the movement conservatives currently loathed by a general public suffering from their wankish, exclusively pro-corporate agenda.

You can't have it both ways

There's a new line going on out there in right wing media. After the murders of Dr. Tiller, an abortion provider, and Stephen T. Johns, a security guard at the Holocaust Museum in DC - both by right wing extremists - the media is totally ignoring the case of Abdulhakim Muhammad, who shot two Army recruiters in Little Rock, Arkansas. Why is the media spending so much time covering the first two nuts, when a third nut is just as guilty of domestic terrorism?

I think I can explain this to those who actually don't understand it:

Another Dick

Senator Dick Durbin, who I used to respect, cashed out his stock the day after meeting with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. Durbin took the money and invested much of the $115,000 in Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Story here.

Miami-Dade police say they have caught the serial cat killer. Here he is:

Cats Mutilated

One would have expected him to look more like like Orion Stoltman.

George Bush Sr. takes a swipe at Obama and Pelosi in an interview with the WaPo.

There has been a long-standing unwritten rule that ex-presidents are not supposed to criticize sitting presidents. But it really only applies to ex-Republican presidents.

Stay classy, douchebag.

Joan Walsh demonstrates how liberals should deal with nutcases like Bill O'Lielly:

After the interview, Joan Walsh, who is the editor of Salon.com, filed an after-action report on her site:

I think the high or low point was when he shrieked at me, "You have blood on your hands!" At one point he also either told me to "Shut up" or "Be quiet," I can't remember. (If I'm wrong about that, when I see the clip, I'll correct it. UPDATE: Actually, he shouted "Stop talking!") He called me "vile." I think I said he was vile, too. There were a couple of "I know you are but what am I?" moments that I'm not totally proud of. It was a kaleidoscopic nightmare, a TV acid trip, and I don't do acid. It almost seems like O'Reilly does, but I don't think so. The man is driven by demons. God bless him and save him.

Exxon ordered to pay $500 million in interest on Valdez: If only the environment had pockets as deep as Big Oil to drag out lawsuits over twenty years.

The American Empire is Bankrupt

This week marks the end of the dollar's reign as the world's reserve currency. It marks the start of a terrible period of economic and political decline in the United States. And it signals the last gasp of the American imperium. That's over. It is not coming back. And what is to come will be very, very painful.

Barack Obama, and the criminal class on Wall Street, aided by a corporate media that continues to peddle fatuous gossip and trash talk as news while we endure the greatest economic crisis in our history, may have fooled us, but the rest of the world knows we are bankrupt. And these nations are damned if they are going to continue to prop up an inflated dollar and sustain the massive federal budget deficits, swollen to over $2 trillion, which fund America's imperial expansion in Eurasia and our system of casino capitalism. They have us by the throat. They are about to squeeze.

Rusty Depass
Over the weekend, we had this GOP official in South Carolina that compared Michelle Obama to a gorilla.

Now, in a second instance of Republicans playing the race card against the Obamas, Wonkette notes that a racist e-mail was sent out by a legislative staffer for Tennessee GOP state senator Diane Black. The staffer, Sherri Goforth, e-mailed this composite picture of the country's 44 presidents, which represents President Obama with only a set of eyes:

44presidents1

Her excuse was that she made a mistake and sent it to the wrong list of email friends.

I don't want to hear one more word about Sonia Sotomayor being a racist, or Barack Obama being a racist, or any of this crap from the right. The Republicans are the ones portraying the President and his wife as gorillas and chimpanzees and monkeys and minstrelsy. Any umbrage they express because other groups have the temerity to think that everyone is entitled to a piece of the American pie is filtered through their own racism. Because yes, they are racist. Any questions?
